The trick is getting it well prepared. I hated it as a kid, but discovered upon growing up and moving away from home that what I hated wasn't liver - it was my mother's preparation of it. She was British, and had internalized the classic bad British cooking concept that meat must be cooked to tough as shoe leather, and didn't start with good cuts of liver to begin with. When I first had a good, thick, properly sauteed cut of liver, smothered in onions, it was a revelation.

(Mom was an erratic cook, doing some things well and some poorly, but a generally superb baker. One thing she did do well, when I could talk her into it, was steak and kidney pie.)

Properly done tripe is wonderful, and the way you deal with kidneys is to cook them in beer.

Vent: %&(@^£*& Internet Service Providers who take four days to realise that when you say their ftp server isn't responding, you really mean that their ftp server isn't responding. At all. Not a forgotten password. Not a user error. Their ftp server looks up but is down.

Thank goodness it's fixed now...

(Oh, and for those interested, it's http://www.durrantpublishing.co.uk/, now finally showing the book officially published on the 16th — the day that the author was giving a talk to the relevant society, and when the web site should have been ready!)

Chopped Liver... Mmmm.

Anyhoo, ya know it's harder to clean the stupid scroll wheel mechanism then it ever was the ball rollers on my pre-optical mouses (and yes, that's actually the correct plural in this case)!

The stupid, little ball on my Apple mouse is like that. I've found some cleaning instructions, including a tip to do with a small strip piece of sticky tape, but by the gods it gives me the irrits when it'll scroll in the less-used up direction but not in the more often-used down, and, with me being of an "impatient-with-hardware" mindset, it's cruisin' for a bruisin' when it does it.

I'm with you, Marc, I hate liver too. My mom loved it, but one taste was all it took to convince me it went on my short list of "things I will not eat". And speaking of chopped liver - I don't know where I got it, but that's one my "my" sayings that make my coworkers look at me funny, "Wait, what am I, chopped liver?" when someone asks someone else to do something I usually do.

Does your TV have multiple means of connecting to your tuner/DVD player/DVR/cable box/whatever (or does it even do it on the internal tuner, if it has one?). We've found odd things happening with our plasma TV over different times, and, firstly, making sure those connections are secure is a good start (we had this problem within days of buying it). Second, trying different cables (sometimes it's just the connector). Thirdly, try a different connection. We recently started having a problem with the RCA connection, actually causing error codes to appear on TV, and suggested by the service tech to be something wrong with the board inside. We switched to the RGB connectors, and haven't had a problem since.

I don't know if any of this will solve it, but it might be worth a try if you haven't already. I'd give you a hug if I could, because, unlike The Loved One, when things like that go wrong I want to go all Elvis on its shiny cyclopean face.

Oh she's got plenty. A nice thing of yarn, assorted bags with dangly bits for her to attack, a Kitty City with a scratch pad and jingly balls on it, four bell balls, one plain ball, and another jingly thing plus a hut she hides and rolls around in. Instead, she prefers to defy gravity by clawing her way around the sides of my bed, attacking me, and she also has a mission to destroy my laptop.

Ouch. She just bit my feet again.

heeheehee ! i remember that... actually, my "kitten" who is probably close to 10 now *still* gets in that mood sometimes. my suggestion : play with her and make her run around to tire her out. do you have one of those "fishin pole" toys ? something like this

those are good for tiring out kittehs. or a laser pointer. just keep it away from her eyes.
