Just finished "Sandman Slim" by Richard Kadrey.

There is so much that goes on, the description does not do it justice. Not available as an e-book, but definitely a worthwhile read as a paper book. Lots of action, and his writing style is as close to watching a movie as it gets.

I know that sounds strange.....but thats how well he writes.

Now I"m off to download everything I can find by Mr. Kadrey.....starting with feedbooks.

Finally getting around to Ron L Hubbards Mission Earth, I've had the Hardbacks since they came out.

Now on book 9 which is really hard going but only got a book and a half left to go.

I guess like a lot of people I am reading "The Lost Symboll"

What an unadulterated load of what pours out of the rear end of a male cow this is!! I have so far read about 25%. it is full of irrelevant (boring) padding, a so far a non existent plot with weak characters, maybe it will improve if I can stay awake long enough - which I doubt.

For me a total waste of $9.99

Hmmm, I have not started it yet, but checked it out digitally from the library so may be glad I didn't waste money on it.

They are very quick reads. Don't plan on any extensive delay between books though, particularly the second and the third as I don' t think the third book can actually stand on its own. It is really just a two hundred and fifty page ending more than anything else. Still it is nice to have it ended and it wasn't bad by any means. The transition from 2 to 3 was relatively seamless and I didn't notice much in the way of a writing shift but that may have been due to the rapid acceleration of plot which didn't really give you time to notice or care about dialogue, scene and character development.

Now, if I can just get that darn Wheel of Time series ended in my lifetime that would be great.

On another note I am about half way through the first Dresden book (this series is another product of my micropay using up frenzy). I'm liking but not loving it at this point. I do definitely like the detective style feel to it juxtaposed with the wizard aspect. I just don't know whether I will come to care enough about the main character or any of the other ones to immediately lunge to the next one and the next when I am finished. I'm thinking this will be a nice light filler series for me and I have a feeling, although obviously I don't know for sure until I read another one, that you don't need a whole lot of background on what just happened in the last book so there will be no need to read them consecutively.

I bought A Hero of Our Time (Penguin Classics) just yesterday, and I have to say I'm very happy with the purchase already, after only reading the introductory essays. Heartily recommended!
To get back to this: While the introduction/preface are formatted just fine, the book itself has lots of missing closing quotes, doubled-up opening quotes, and even has opening quotes on lines that don't contain dialogue at all. I've submitted feedback to FW, but I haven't the faintest if/when they'll (Penguin) be fixing this. Disappointing.
That said, the book itself is an interesting read.

I'm afraid that I've been reading the new Dan Brown, to see whether it is as bad as the reviews suggest. It is. In fact, it 's so bad that it's rather funny.

Either my software crashed just as I tried to open my copy, or else it commited suicide when it saw what it was opening. Either way, Dan Brown broke it and should be forced to fix my library software.
