PDF or ePub on 505??

I've been choosing PDF when there's a choice between it and ePub.

Which of the two is considered the best choice for the Sony 505?

Thanks!

Both have their places. What is not good on the 505 are the older letter or A4 sized PDFs with fixed layout. They are almost impossible to read on a 6" screen.

Also, most PDFs that are custom built for the 6" screen come in a fixed font size. If you later want to increase the font size you cannot do this on the older PDFs. (I will sometimes need to enlarge the font size in lower light levels.)

I would favor ePub; but, many people are upset with the current Sony implementation that does not provide full line justification.

R, Thanks for the reply!

My Sony 505 has just recently begun occasionally freezing so that I have to do a soft reset (using the button on back).

I thought maybe it might have to do with the particular format(s) of the books I have been reading.

The freezing had never been a problem before.

Any ideas what's going on?

You may want to try doing a reformat of your reeader. (Under advanced settings). Be aware that this will erase everything on your reader, so you'll need to ransfer everything over again. I had to do this awhile ago, and it really helped.

Good luck!

D, No, I don't want to do this as the content on Sony 505 is not backed up anywhere. At this point, I would prefer to just live with the occasional freezing problem.

Does anyone know if there is any possibility the occasional freezing (only a recent problem) might be due to quirks in the book format?

Pete--
Just want to be sure...you can copy everything off of your reader to your computer and then reload it if you want--that is as long as there isn't any drm files involved! Also, you'd lose any bookmarks and collection information you may have on your reader.

D, Thanks for the reply!

I have used my PC and looked into the file formats on the 505. There seems to be a hodgepodge of data sets, files, etc. I don't see how I would copy all the data and be able to restore it back to the same way it was before.

Can you provide some info on this?

I prefer epub. Also, Sony is going to transition to epub-only in its store.

If you can't get a correctly sized PDF, definitely LRF is the most tolerable alternative.
