i have just emerged victorious from an extended battle of wits with farking mobipocket drm. drm : 0, zelda : 1

i have seriously got to figure out the thing with my stupid ms reader (borked the last time i reinstalled my system, now i can't open my previously purchased lit books nor download them from the server) so i can buy lit books again. i've had it with this mobi drm nonsense.

now i'm loading my newly purchased book "a certain chemistry" by mil millington onto my liseuse and looking forward to giggling madly while reading it.

thank you ! i think i will. i will particularly savour this book since it was free : i just remembered that i never used my coupon for a free book from my fictionwise subscription (which is going to expire any minute now), and i had enough micropay to cover the difference, so since i just finished millington's first book it seemed like a good choice.

little moment of surprise, it turns out when you use the "free book" coupon (which in reality is just a 10$ credit) they deduct the coupon from the full price of the book, not the club price. not that i'm complaining, it's very nice of them, it just seemed illogical.

oh, it was !!!! and there was beating involved, although it may have been more catharthic than actually useful. seriously, i cannot WAIT for the day when publishers finally get a clue and drop drm for good !!!

(the book better be worth it, that's all i can say ! luckily, i'm pretty sure it will be.)

I live in a world of approximation, so I'd say about 10 pounds of peeled and cut apples, 1 cup of butter (not salted!), 1 tea spoon of nutmeg (I don't have cinnamon these days) and 3 cups of brown sugar (those apples are mighty tart!). Cook the apple with a little water until they turn into a sauce when you stir them, add butter, sugar (to taste) and spice of your choice, then blend to a smooth and creamy consistence (I have a hand blender, the kind you can use to make milk shakes). It keeps 6 months in the freezer, 1 month in the fridge. And it makes a great gift!

Mmmm... pizza... sounds so much better than what is planned for dinner tonight.

Fishfingers, mashed potatoes and green peas doesn't sound half as good as pizza!

I am presently bemused by the cover of this week's Newsweek magazine which shows only the end of an unplugged electrical cord and the headline "THE CASE FOR KILLING GRANNY". I was momentarily stunned. Nobody holds back anything any more, do they?

Nope, and there's a bigger and bigger part of society who cheers them on...

Of course, the article goes on to say that that's NOT the question. The question is to hold conversations with granny herself, before she is comatose -- and ask if she WANTS to be kept alive in a comatose condition. Or whether she wants to write a document stating what she does want, in those kinds of conditions.

I wasn't trying to comment on the health care issue - certainly not. Particularly not in an Unutterably Silly thread. I was only laughing and crying about the odd way that the media and many individuals don't seem to hold back on anything. I fully expect to see a coworker any minute now walk naked past my office door with three gibbons on his or her head while all are playing kazoos loudly.
