"Did that dog just talk?"

"It seemed like it. I thought I was the only one Montsnmags had fiddled with. I wonder if this means he's in the area. That could lead to complications."

"Oui. It would not be a great addition to our inevitable reportage that we once again lost the prize because of his inferanl interference! I swear to the gods above that he has some sort of invisible agent that keeps us from nabbing him!"

The tree above them rustled slightly. Neither agent noticed that there was not really any breeze to speak of.

"D'you suppose we should go over and untie that fellow?"

"Non. We will watch and see what transpires. He is not nearing death yet, so it is of little concern."

"You're not just saying that because he's a dog, are you?" growled Slite.

"Non! I am saying that because he has an accent Americain. Let them sort out their own problems."

i'm glad vr's plight has not escaped notice though. at least we can be sure that if things do start to heat up for him someone will come to his rescue.

He was languid. He wasn't sure what "languid" meant, but he was definitely it. The temperature was hot and the tree branch was comfy. If only those two yahoos below him would shut up...

He briefly considered dropping on their heads and pulling their heads off in a fit of anger, but decided that "languid" really meant postponing anger to another day. He shifted his weight to get more comfy.

He could feel that soon, there would be necessary action. But not today. Not today.
