I'm reading "Soul Identity" on my iPhone and really enjoying it. On my Sony I'm reading "Night Shift," but I'm not really getting into it.

"Sandman Slim" by Richard Kadrey. A friend won an advance copy thru Library Thing, and asked if I would like to read it. Even tho its a paper book, (not available digitally yet) its well worth the effort. I'm barely into the first chapter, and already its given me that tingly "oh Lord, what a great book!" feeling. Here is the first sentence:

"I wake up on a pile of smoldering garbage and leaves in the old Hollywood Forever Cemetery, behind the Paramount Studio lot in Melrose, though these last details don't come to me until later."

Here is the synopsis from Amazon:

From Publishers Weekly
Kadrey (Butcher Bird) provides biting humor, an over-the-top antihero and a rich stew of metaphoric language in this testosterone- and adrenaline-charged noir thriller. James Stark spent 11 years killing monsters in Lucifer's arena for the entertainment of fallen angels, but now he's back in seedy, magic-riddled L.A., trying to avenge his girlfriend's murder and hunt down Mason Faim, the black magician responsible for getting him sent downtown. He meets with some initial success, beheading second-rate magician Kasabian (whose head becomes Stark's smart-mouthed sidekick), but he can't find Faim. Instead he encounters Homeland Security agents, a near-psychotic angel and some odd nonhuman, nonangelic beings called the kissi. Darkly atmospheric settings, such as a posh gentlemen's club where angels are tortured in an attempt to bring about Armageddon, bring this violent fantasy into sharp, compelling focus. (Aug.)

I haven't but I bought all three in a fit of using up micropay and a 25% off coupon from fictionwise. Will let you know when I read the other two but can't tell you how this one compares with TMGAIHAA yet although I heard great things about it which is why I purchased them in the first place.

Just finished _The Mysterious Affair At Styles_... what to read next?

Been wanting to read some more of Steven Jordan's stuff... Still yet to read _The Len's_ and I hear a lot gushing about _Verdant Skys_.

Also heard about how great _The Pillars of the Earth_ is and that is on my "list" also.

Hmm??? Maybe Dg will start a poll for me.

Finally finished Judas Unchained, yay! I was relieved when it was over. I should never have read both books so close to each other. They are OK books but reading them back to back I started getting really annoyed at all the little (or big) faults. I just posted my review on Lybrarything if anyone is interested.

Now I'm back with Proust, and I also started a short novel by Irène Némirovsky which I like so far. Also trying to keep reading on ancient greek philosophy...

I started reading those back in 1969 (1971?), when the Adult Fantasy Series was around. Great writing and wonderful fantasies.

I'm a relatively new ebook owner/reader though my interest in the field began some 20 years ago. I picked up a Sony 505 a few weeks ago after a couple of weeks of investigation -- in particular for the vast range of classic literature available and in hopes of getting some of those off my "to be read" list.

I finished "Of Human Bondage" by W. Somerset Maugham last week, also "At the Earth's Core" by Burroughs and am currently reading "Sons and Lovers" by D. H. Lawrence.

I'm looking forward to the new Margaret Atwood novel..

You will LOVE it, and then read the sequel, World Without End. Don't read the seq until you finish Pillars, then let it percolate a while before WWE.

Judas Unchained is one of the first ebooks I ever bought from Fictionwise. I remember reading it, but can't remember anything else about it. I don't think it made a very big impression.

You must have read the first volume then, Pandora's Star. Don't you remember it either?

I read a few of Hamilton's other books a few years ago and I enjoyed them at the time. I think my tastes have changed since then. I am getting picky as I grow older
