BookCreator Tool v3.5

Hello,

I am having a problem using BookCreator on my Mac. I have OS X 10.4 and am using Office 2004.

When I open it up and then enable macros I get an error that says: "Compile Error: Expected: Identifier"

Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks for any help you can provide,

@natham: VBA does not work in MacOSx, so you need to run it in Windows. Try Parallels.

@-X-: I am having that known problem of not having .lrf file after finishing conversion. In fact it is strange, at sometimes it works, seems very random. I have tried to set read only to the template, but it does not work either. Using the debug file I saw that the template uses Windows/temp for the html file, which is perfectly created. If I use Calibre later to add that temp/html file Calibre converts it perfectly, so it seems that there is some step failing in the html2lrf process.

What version of calibre are you using? If greater that .6 then you need to use the BC 3.0 Beta.

Also try running the debug file from the command line. If the command line fails post the error message on the forum or PM me.

First of all, I did not say before that your tool is really great, thanks for it. I was using 2.0 with Calibre 0.5 and the debug file I used first is for that versions. Now I have tried with 3.0 and Calibre 0.6.10 and I cannot set the debug mode on and cannot even get the html file in Windows/Temp. I attach here a screen capture of Windows/Temp after running BookCreator 3.0 in Word 2004.

I will uninstall Calibre 0.6.10 and install BookCreator 2.0 and Calibre 0.5 just to recreate what I said before. By the way, I did not understand what you said about running debug in command line. Could you give me a wider explanation, please?

With 3.0 I added a check box under the "Misc." tab called "Enabled Debug Information" but the process is still the same as 2.0. The location of the debug flag might be in a different location.

Yeah I was a bit terse in my previous post. What I meant was to run the output of the "debug.txt" file from the command line. Doing this completely removes MS Word from the equation and will allow us to identify if it is a path issue or a switch issue. Calibre will also ouput debug information so we need to see what calibre reports.

To run the debug information from the command line do the following
1) Open up the "debug.txt" file.
2) Copy the text in the first line--it's very long. (make sure word wrap is turned off.)
3) Open a command prompt via the start menu "Start | Run...". I don't know what the spanish would say "Empezar|Correr..."... I can't spell.
4) In the "Run" dialog type "cmd" and depress the <OK> button.
5) Open up the system menu. "Alt+Space Bar".
6) Paste the debug.txt text from the menu "Edit|Paste" then hit the <Enter> button.

OK, I did what you told me and the first result was "incorrect path". I checked and as I tried with both versions of Calibre, I had uninstalled it after the first tries and forgot to reinstall. Reinstalled again and now it works great, at least with version 2.0 of the tool and calibre 0.5.9. The only difference with the previous tries is that from the very beginning I did not make a custom install, but rather specified that it should be installed under C:/Program Files/Calibre. This is important, as in spanish versions the "Program Files" folder is named "Archivos de Programa". Previously, Calibre was installed under that folder and I moved it later to a new "Program Files" folder. It was my fault, obviously.

You have been of great great help and the Tool is fantastic. I have a Sony PRS 505 since 2 weeks and it has been impossible for me to format several documents as I wanted without your tool. You should consider to receive donations: it is a great piece of program (if it can be called that way...)

Thanks for the response... are you sure about that? I was under the impression that in Office 2004 on a PowerPC Mac you can use VBA. But I could definitely be wrong. I can access the Virtual Basic Editor through Office 2004.

I have been using BookCreator 2.5.2 for quite a while. I have had no reason to upgrade as it works perfectly for my requirements.

Recently however, for the first time, I wanted a table in one of my documents.

Initially, I set the page to have 2 columns. Unfortunately after converting to LRF, the result was a single column.
Next, I changed the columns into a table. Again, this resulted in the table being ignored and turned into a single colum of text.

Finally, I used Tabs to create the 2 columns I am after. While this has worked, the final result has the second column wavy as if I had used spaces rather than tabs.

Could somebody please advise how I can acheive the desired result of 2 columns of justified text (left hand side of the text justified - it is 2 lists of names).

Good point, I should have used the Windows API to find the "Program Files" path, but unfortunatly I hard coded the path. However, for your education, the path can be changed in BookCreator (BC). This way you can keep calibre in your default path and just update BC to point to the correct location of calibre

@PieOPah I've only tried using two columns in MS Word once and what I did was to use a table for the two column, not Words built in 2 column.

LRF gave me no problems but I found I had to hard code the table and column width to the PRS-505 width work properly for LIT and ePUB files.

Thanks, I'll have a play around to see if I can work it out. I've tried both columns and tables, neither of which seemed to work.

Tables can be a pain. I sometimes cheat; do a screengrab of the table, save and edit the image and paste it into the text.

Or just copy and paste the text into MS Paint.

Okay if we're going to confess our sins I breakout with OpenOffice and create a PDF ebook when I want a complicated layout like double columns and such.
