Nope, never heard of it, nor of Kang and Kodos.

Well, it was a pretty obscure reference.

You know I was being silly and ironic, don't you, Ben (denying the memory while stating unmentioned characters' names)? Up until about Season 9-10, I can recall most episodes to some degree, especially with prompting such as yours. One of my personal favourites: El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer...which segues nicely back to further talk about cooking (particularly if one likes Guatemalan insanity peppers in one's dishes)

Cheers,
Marc

Well then stop it! You're getting me all confused. I nearly burnt the icecream (which is even more odd as I'm making chicken laksa).

This is not a crime in MR forums. It's actually considered an art form.

and possibly even a science.

i've been keeping an eye on this thread from a distance because i used to have some cookbooks but i gave them away, when i noticed i was getting all my recipes online.

so in case anyone is interested, my current favourite recipe site (thank you, google ads on my gmail page !) is this one : http://www.101cookbooks.com/index.html

i've not made many recipes yet but i've bookmarked a *lot* of them. it's nice to have a recipe ressource focussed on vegetarian cooking that focusses on things that taste good and are good for you, but without being preachy about it. and i like that a lot of the recipes are fairly simple. the other thing i like is that she often gives suggestions of ways to adapt the recipe depending on what ingredients you have available or what you're in the mood for ; i love finding a recipe i like and then playing with different variations.

Too true. Same for all new information that I want to find. Instead of picking up a volume of the encyclopedia, I pick up a search engine. Although I have dozens of paper cookbooks, and thousands of recipes that I've put into a data base on the computer, (as well as plenty of downloaded e-cookbooks,) I really only go to these when I want 'that certain recipe,' not something new. For new ideas I go to the Internet. It's just so much easier to find what I'm looking for with a search engine and the correct search string. I guess that was really the deciding factor; that correct search string. Learning the expressions only took a day or two, and I'm sure I don't know them all, but the ones I do use cut my search time tremendously.

I guess novels aren't the only thing to get pushed into a corner by the Computer Age.

Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji. Highly recommended, not just as a cookbook, but also for the excellent writing and insight into japanese cuisine.

Ooh! This looks very nice, from your description, just what I have been looking for - I will definitely have a look at these. Thanks for the link.

Me, too. I have lots of recipes saved on my computer and a good many cookbooks - but do I look there first? Never. I use Google

So now I've made a Wordbress blog for recipes I like, and have used, and then I plan to keep adding to it whenever I find something great. I've noticed how I use a few recipes a lot for a period of time, and then I completely forget about them, which is a shame. I hope I can use the blog to look up older recipes, and then I've also added some "base recipes" that can be varied depending on what I have on hand.

I use the internet as often to look up a recipe as my books. For korean kitchen I strongly recommend Maangchi.com. Just love her.

And try the butter chicken from VahChef at Vahrehvah.com. It REALLY comes out like in an indian restaurant.

And I remember the Simpsons episode. Funny I remember it, as I haven´t watched them all, but I have to smile when I think about it.
