I always get at least 7 hours I'm reading lots of romance, so they're shorter and lighter, which makes it easier.

On another note, if anyone's looking for some good paranormal fantasy, I'm loving the "Lords of Underworld" series by Gena Showalter. I bought the bundle since it was cheap ($13) and it came highly recommended from a friend. I don't usually buy series bundles in case I don't like the first one, but this was worth it. The first wasn't that great, but it's a prequel novella, so no biggie. It would have probably been better if they included it last in the bundle.

Started a "Big Little Life" by Dean Koontz - nonfiction about his dog. It is much shorter than I expected and doesn't flow terribly well (or at all). I will stick with his thrillers from now on but I can never resist a dog story.

Did you see these two posts by MR members?

GeoffC-A dog with cats writing about humans A short story by GeoffC

Kevin Gerard-A human writing about dogs and a cat CHIPPER by Kevin Gerard

Just finished reading Steve Jordan's Verdant Skies and loved it. Great characters and very believable story and science. It was even more interesting to me as Yellowstone is in the USA. I have watched either a Nat Geo or History Channel program about that same possible scenario. I can't wait for more about these characters.

I followed Verdant Skies with Soul Identity by Dennis Batchelder. I have to admit that I tried this due to the comments made by Elsi, and I am glad that I did. Great page turning story and hard to put down!

Sage: Tales from a Magical Kingdom by Maria Schneider (Bear Mountain Books on MR) is my current read as I wait for Moejoe to get the rest of his Lance Spencer story, When the Fat Lady Sings, (a title and writing challenge suggested by MR member Slite), up for download.

Just started The magicians by Lev Grossman
It's good so far and seems like a fast read. If you like stories about a teenager entering a magic school, this might be worth taking a look at.

I finished The Caged Virgin by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and am about to start When It Was Dark by Guy Thorne, which I got from Google Books for free. Chrisopher Hitchens mentioned it during a debate on religion, so I decided to check it out.

Well.. I'm almost 1/2 way through _Caught Stealing_ and I'm about done with it. While it is a bit violent and raw, that's not the problem. This is billed as "Hard Boiled Mysterty" I guess there is just to much Hard and Boiled and not enough mystery for me. Also, I don't really like the choppy dialog and first person and tense.... it just seems to make the story hard to get into.

So, I am going to start reading the MRBC selection, _The Mysterious Affair as Styles_ by Agatha Christie... a Cozy Mystery I think... I hope there is more mystery than Cozy in it.

I had the same problem with it as you did - great starting premise (albeit a bit overdone on violence) but read more like a screen play wannabe than a mystery book with any development of plot, character, etc.

I'm so sad. My favorite TV channel, Arte, which I can usually count on for documentaries on Saturday night (some are really good, some are total crap, most are interesting enough for me), is airing a historical fiction instead. So I guess I can only spend the evening with books. Good thing I went to the library today and brought back a collection of texts on pre-socratic philosophers. Plus my Cybook seems to be working for the moment (cross fingers) and I still need to finish Judas Unchained. All I need now is to make a pot of herb tea, and I'm all set for the evening <Where is the smiley reading on a sofa with a blanket and a mug???>
