As reported by the Times, Asus plans a market entry by year end. In one version its expected to be a dual screen device.

I wonder if this is the long expected pixel qi device? http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...cle6822723.ece |

How much would it weigh with two screens? Key factor IMO.

It says full color, so it can't be eInk.. and also it must be backlit. There are no color non-transmissive screens commercially available for anywhere near that price. I don't see how the device described would be qualitatively better for reading than any old LCD monitor or laptop display. And battery life would be an issue.

If they are monochrome eInk, two displays would alone cost over 60 pounds wholesale. That doesn't sound right either. Basically I think this is a 7" class netbook with an extra display instead of a keyboard. |

I guess with the success of their netbooks they started looking at other related markets.. They have the hardware skills (easily) and software skills (linux distros run on ANYTHING), so it might be a great open source device.

Probably not as shiny as a mac tablet might be but a lot cheaper and more open. |

Price should be all the reason you need. Especially if you're talking about color, which if history tells us anything will likely be even more expensive than the existing displays (initially).

Last I heard integrated touch was something they were looking into. Of course you could always use an existing touch technology... though at this price the only option would likely be [brightness sapping] resistive membranes. Last edited by Dylrob; 09-06-2009 at 10:24 PM. |
