I'm looking at http://www.amazon.com/Years-Best-SF-...d_bxgy_b_img_c
Available new for $7.99 from Amazon Available new for $4.66 from other seller Available Used for $4.66 Available for Kindle for $9.99 I also saw it available in epub at Diesel for $12.05 Available at the publisher for $7.99 What part of the above doesn't make sense? |

Harper Collins has been doing that quite a bit lately. They'll have a $7.99 paperback and set the list price for the ebook at $14.99

Unfortunately not at mine. And I do my best to not break copyright laws. I did find a version of Ted Chiangs "Exhalation" which was one of the main ones I wanted to read --- and a good one too! Last edited by kennyc; 09-06-2009 at 07:13 PM. |

It's early days, hopefully Amazon will get it together and realize some of their pricing structures are just insane. I'd contact them about it, the more we contact them and complain, the more likely we are to see change.

It is pretty entertaining but until ebook readers are more mainstream they are going to try to squeeze out every penny out of us that they can.

It has little to do with Amazon. They're the cheapest place to get it.

This is typical in most new industries, and the e-book industry is a perfect example. Until standards, formats, readers and the overall experience manage to achieve a sensible balance, you're going to see prices across the board on individual books. Hopefully, prices will eventually reflect the value of certain formats over others (better formatting on common devices, for example) and actual popularity, as well as comparison to market prices. We're simply not there yet.
