jplummey, what os are you running under?

I've just got an Ubuntu desktop running in vm, I'll have some time to test out the linux fixes tomorrow if I can get off work at a regular hour and get a release out this weekend.

I'm going to look at the mobi time issue in a bit.

Eddie, this was under Windows XP Sp2. I haven't tried to run this on my Mac yet.

I've checked in the fix for linux and am looking fully supporting the new calibre release. Part of it is cleaning up options I pass for the different file formats, so if there are any options you'd like, ask now.

FYI, calibre is throwing an exception while converting this page, I'll poke on a it a bit more and if I can narrow down an example that replicates it I'll submit a bug report.

This may fix some issues folks are having:

v0.6.0

you can also get it via the update mechanism.
  • Requires calibre 0.6.*
  • Fixes some internal file permission issues under Linux

v0.6.1

I found a pretty big bug in the editor/selection conversion, so I pushed out a new release, v0.6.1. Firefox's update feature should pick it up automatically.

I also added icons to the menus and add-on dialog. I really need to come up with a better icon set.

Hello All,

I have been trying this extension and found something interesting that I haven't seen mentioned before.
The standard spidering preferences is to have max recursions=1 but that leads to empty lrf/epub/mobi files. I have changed it to 0 and now I can grab a page without problems.
If recursionlevel is set to 1 then ebook-convert errors out.

Regards,

Joop

Thanks, I'll play around with different default values and tweak it with the next release.

THANK YOU!

Bookit stopped working for me several releases ago. Since it relies on Calibre and both have gone through several versions, I couldn't figure out enough from the logs or behavior to submit a bug report other than "it doesn't work anymore" which isn't really that helpful to the developer, so I kept quiet. Love the plugin, so have been frustrated that it had stopped working for me.

Works great now (again)--thanks for the tip.

I'll definitely put out a release this weekend that changes the default value, that should help other folks. I'll try out some values and try to characterize the problem.

Are there any other small problems folks are having I can roll into a new drop?

One other thing that I ran into while trying to figure out what was going on behind the scene was that the output of web2disk is abc.xhtml. I don't think you can change this but it makes testing a lot more difficult since FF doesn't like the .xhtml part very much. Renaming it to abc.html does help but doing that for all other .xhtml is a bit cumbersome.

Another problem that I encountered was that pages with frames are difficult to grab if you don't realise its a frame.
The log of Bookit is really helpful since it contains the commands used to grab and convert the page and you can copy/paste these to see what goes wrong and what the effect is of other parameters like recursion.

Keep up the good work.

Joop

One thing I was going to add for myself, was a checkbox to disable deleting the web2disk output directory. Mainly to check the output for debugging.

I've put out v0.6.2. Install from this link or via Firefox Add-on update.

In this release are:
  • Better 32x32 icon
  • Option to keep working directory
  • Use 0 as default value for max recursions
  • Option to specify cover image
  • Option to specify extra css file
  • Option to disable default cover in ePub

Unhappy Doesn't work?

Trying to use this on Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64, Firefox 3.5.2, Calibre 6.10. Tell it to convert a page, all I get is 'saving page', then Error - no log, just an xhtml file in the working directory, and a 0 length epub file.

What am I missing?

OK, got it (mostly) working. If you install calibre with the Linux installer, it puts everything in /opt/calibre, and puts links into /usr/bin. Editing paths to /opt/calibre made it go.

but... the book added to Calibre doesn't show up in the book list. Adding the file manually does get an 'already exists' dialog, but forcing it in works.

Now, are there docs anywhere? (Like, can I select particular frames, etc?)

(2nd edit)
Updated Calibre, fixed the load to calibre issue. Also found convert selection in the
context menu. Damn, almost there.
