Don't know, really. I'm lazy with maths. At least pond went down a bit.
I wish the UK used euro like normal people do.

You're not the one paying $$$ to your bank every time you buy e-books because of that. That's annoying.

Nope. Just an official announcement on Bookeen blog, quote:
"Our Dev team will soon release the next firmware upgrade."
I would put (!) behind soon but then, I'm a cynic.

Even more confused

Having been away from the site for a few days I have just waded through these 8 pages and find myself more confused than ever:

I have had my Cybook nearly a year now, use it daily and love it.
I chose it because the advice on this forum was that Mobipocket was the way to go - more content, better pricing etc. etc.
I would like the idea of folders so would welcome the upgrade

But now I'm reading that epub is the way to go and perhaps I should be looking at the pdf version of the firmware update which looks like it might have a better supported life.
I am not bothered about my investment in .prc books (thanks to information gathered here ) and so the process of going to pdf and converting my existing library would not be too painful - but:-
What is it with epub? I mean other than my home country problems with fictionwise I've not had too much trouble getting stuff to read, but now it seems epub is better? I just looked at the Borders site and I have to download an application just to see what books they have for sale.

So people what should I do?

Convert them to ePub, should be easier

The main point to consider is what format is used for the books available in your country.
ePub in addition to being open, can have better formating.

Yeah, anoying. And it's a sony apps, don't seams to work outside us and canada

My main sources for ePub are watterstones and diesel book.
You also have feedbook, bean and some other.

For most fiction reading, mobipocket is surely adequate - do you have any problems with your current reading ?
When the firmware comes out you have a choice to stay with mobi, or move to epub (even back and forth).....
Unless mobi becomes unsupported, then I see no rational reason to move to epub - there are a multitude and more of books already available in mobi format - and my current library is developed in that.....

Library support I would be happy to have, but other than that I'm not overly bothered. I have a stable Gen3 that has lasted over a year without any resets and it does what I want it to do - namely load with books and read .... dictionary support works well........(another issue with ePub [may change]).

But it seems recently that Fictionwise is shifting away from mobipocket... Dan Brown latest book, "The Lost Symbol" is not offered in Mobipocket, only in eReader... Books on board, on the other hand has it only in ePub...

If this trend continue, we may have to shift to ePub...

Regards,

Georges

For me, the format at my country is not an issue, near zero books, no new books and I hardly read in Spanish. Libraries don't matter either, I hope watching an e-book there some day, but not in the near future. So, the only reason for switching to ePub (and coming back to Adobe ) would be no new books in Mobipocket.

The only effect will be that I will convert those ePub books to mobi. For me a format without decent dictionary support is like going back in time about a decade.

The information you got back then was correct but - the only thing constant in IT is that everything constantly changes. Back then there was very little activity on the ebook front in continental Europe and Angloamerican ebooks were - and are still - mostly in .mob format. Because European languages were basically not present in ebooks European publishers have now an easy time to switch to ePub. They don't have to be afraid to lose existing customers as there were none to start with. So if you are looking for ebooks in languages other than English you will most probably have to sooner or later embrace ePub. If you read exclusively English language ebooks you would probably better stick to mobi.

This is valid in case you buy DRMes ebooks. If you read only non-DRM stuff than the decision is somewhat up to you. ePub is a new format and - as mostly happens - therefore has it advantages over older formats which didn't foresee certain developments back when they were created. It has, though, also some disadvantages (e.g. dictionary support) which depend much on your style of reading whether they concern your situation or not.
But with non-DRM stuff it is very easy to convert back and forth between different formats, so you might just give it a try...

Also, expect an (at least one) even better format to arrive within the next few year where everybody who buys a reader then will tell you that it's the only way to go. Don't worry, though, formats don't concern you that much really: If you buy DRM you have to stick to that format anyway. And if you don't buy DRM you can always change...
