I stopped by the Sony style store today to check out the 600 (and 300) with my trusty 505 as a reference.

The 600 display is very readable. It is certainly superior to my PRS 500, which I read without problem every day for 18 months. When compared directly with my 505, the screen background was a grayer, although still lighter the the 500's screen. The letters appear a bit lighter as well, and just a bit softer. However, I feel these differences are minor in practical use. The 600 screen looks great. It's only when held right next to my 505 that it suffered a bit in comparison.

Oddly enough, I found that the 300's screen also had a darker background than my 505, about the same as the 600, although the letters themselves were darker and sharper than on the 600, just like the 505. I know that there is some variability between eink displays which might account for what I saw when comparing my particular 505 to the particular 300s at the store.

As far as glare and reflectivity go, the 600's screen is more reflective than the 505's, but I didn't find it at all intrusive. Again I think that if I hadn't had the 505 right there as a direct comparison, I wouldn't really have noticed the difference. Glare was not an issue on either screen under the conditions in the store.

I would not hesitate to buy a 600 due to any concerns over the screen. If it had support for a Spanish dictionary, or a known hack for the same, I would buy one for myself right now. I don't find the touch screen interface or note taking to be compelling enough by themselves to justify buying a 600 to replace my 505. I don't need an English dictionary.

One more thing, page turns on the 600 were considerably faster than on the 505 -- comparing the sample books on the 600 to the epub I had loaded on the 505. The pages turned basically as fast as I could slide my finger on the screen.

They offer complete protection systems for the prs 700, kindle and iliad. I contacted them to see if they would be offering a system for the prs 600 and they have offered to draw the pattern and fit my 505 and 600 when I receive it for free.

Do any prs 700 or kindle owners have any experience with this product. Is this something other sony 505 or 600 owners would be interested in ordering when they draw the pattern?
Have you ordered and got the wrapsol screen protector. How is the quality ( if you received one)?

It hasn't been shipped to me yet. I will let you know when i get it done.

I still would like to know if there are any PRS 700 users have tried it?

This is in response to addadutta's question, post 199.

ok, you can't export all of the highlighted portion. That only appears in the name of the exported note as a reference. The notes that are exported in their entirety are only your personal notes. This works well. But, the help menu on the software is entirely misleading and makes a claim that is not true, just to warn my academic friends and others who are interested.

Edit: Does anyone know someone who can hack the software and make this work the way I want it to?

I think it's a copyright issue. But they should let you copy at least a paragraph not just one measly sentence.
Someone might hack it, but you have to wait for our resident hackers to get their hands on the device and see what can be done...

Thanks - it's one of my more successful macro experiments.

The document you highlighted and tried to export highlighted portion from - is it drm-ed? Try non-drm-ed document and see if there is any difference.

No, they are open source. In fact, I even tried one of my own Word documents that I wrote myself. So, it sucks. I was hoping it did what their literature said. What's funny is, if you read copyright law, you can technically copy 3/4 of a book before violating copyright. Of course, you can't distribute it, but you can use it for personal use. Very frustrating that they only have one sentence instead of something more substantial. I'm praying someone can give me a hack that makes this work right.

That's not encouraging. I would understand (or at least tried very hard to understand) if this behaviour was exhibited with drm-ed files only... I think some sort of hack will be eagerly awaited

Still waiting on mine. I am pretty sure I ordered from Borders on the first day available, 6 August. I just got off the phone with their rep who said they were back ordered.
No email came to let me know this. Kinda bummed since I already bought an ebook I am dying to read.
