Astra,

Americans buy British movies, books, and music. Given exchange rates and economic circumstances tourism might be down, but every time there is a boxing match in Vegas with an English boxer, I can't get a seat at my pub, one learns many new English songs just walking through a casino and our Brit friends buy everything they can get their hands on at the stores.

Why the trend to anti-Americanism again? I thought Europe fell in love with the US after Obama was elected?

Well, the tide might turn with Obama...or might not...who knows? As LDBoblo said:

and lately it became very popular in Europe to hate the USA and Israel.

Is there no way to select your own dictionary for the look-up feature? The requirements for the dictionary design can't be terribly formidable, can they? And letting the user select the dictionary would be particularly good for those trying to learn a language.

from what i've understood, the dictionary will be automatically selected based on your keyboard choice (US or UK) but you can modify the selection yourself in the settings.

Can anyone tell if the dictionary will be available only for epub files? Is it possible to use it in pdf files too?

I think someone reported it works in PDFs.

Merely speculation on my part but it should work in PDFs as long as they're text-based and not images. Can't see why it wouldn't work in a PDF.

The 600 from SonyStyle USA came with two dictionaries installed - you chose which to use.

New Oxford American Dictionary
Oxford Dictionary of English

It is set up through the Settings Menu - Advanced Settings - Dictionary

I have tested it with the following -
LRX (from Sony) , LRF (Google classics), Adobe Digital Edition (from Library), Adobe PDF (textbook) , and RTF (a document I created)
It worked well and selected and defined from all of these documents.

I have a LRF of the book 1984, and I was unable to choose "one word." Every time I tapped on the document it selected several words at the same time. So, I would assume that there could be issues with some documents depending on whether they were appropriately converted in the first place.

[I only downloaded 1984 because Kindle users had theirs stolen -
it's just my wacky sense of humor to prove that I could have it and THEY couldn't. ]

Can one look up a word in a note which one has entered using the on-screen keyboard?
