sigh. again with the bleeding power tools today. and those workment were there making insane amounts of noise all weekend too ! i'm pretty sure that's illegal. also, i've been thinking about that monstrous mutant spider, and i bet you it was living inside one of the walls they demolished (probably for the past 100 or so years, how else could it grow that big), and they scared chased* it out. so really, catching it for me was actually the least they could do.

*"scared", please, godzilla couldn't have scared that thing, what was i thinking.

Here, the excrutiatingly loud noise we have to contend with is the sound of cicadas. They come out every few years and the mating sound they make is deafening, especially in the evenings, but it pretty much lasts all day and all night. We had the doors open last evening because it has turned a little cooler, but the noise was so bad the kids couldn't hear the television unless they turned that up to deafening levels. It was like the battle of the Insects vs. the Disney Channel!

They are OUTRAGEOUSLY loud! Imagine the sound of crickets amplified by MILLIONS.

Cicadas give me the CREEPS! There was one in the parking deck elevator with me this morning. It was on one wall, so I was flattened against the opposite wall, hoping and praying that it wouldn't fly until I could get off. YIKES!

And they are very loud at our house this year also. It's only been 3 yrs since the 17th year, so I'm blaming all of the rain for bringing them out in plagues.

TRILLIONS ?????? sweet fuzzy squirrels on a cracker, that's a LOT of bugs !!!!! that's a really weird life-cycle though, only a few weeks above ground every 17 years...

don't i wish.

i don't have a portable computer. i want to get one, but 1. i can't decide whether it's more important to have something small and light enough that i would actually want to carry it around when i need it vs. something with a big enough screen / keyboard to make it actually useable for work (i'm more inclined towards the latter, since that way i could use it as a backup computer in case my desktop ever dies in the middle of a huge project. because you know they always choose the worst possible time to die...) and 2. if i get one big and powerful enough to make it practical for work, it will cost a LOT of money, and i just can't quite justify spending that much dosh on something i might only need a few times a year. i'm frequently tempted to get a netbook because they're small and light and cheap, but if they're small and light and cheap but useless for what i actually spend most of my time doing, there doesn't seem to be much point. i don't really need something that wouldn't be good for much more than checking my email, i can do that from my desktop pc much more comfortably and i'm here most of the time anyway.
