Here is a link to a longer video with additional comparisons to the 505 and the Kindle DX. On this video things don't look bad at all and the speed is fantastic. I love the dictionary lookup as compared to my Kindle.

Many thanks for posting the link. After watching the video of the 600 vs 505 I'm going to keep my lovely 505

Okay, so I went down to the Sony Style store to take a look at the 600 (and the 300.)
I was very very surprised. The 600's contrast is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. The videos are providing (in my mind) a very skewed sense of the difference. Yes, there is a difference, but the 600's contrast level is very readable.

The screen is a bit more reflective than the 300 (Which was the only thing that was available to compare.) I was mildly concerned about the bright light reflection, but I realized that the 300 does the same thing. Any surface that's not deeply matte black is going to reflect a bright, direct light.

So after playing around with it for a bit, I decided that I want a 505 rather than a 600. Mostly though, it's not because of the screen. It's because of the interface. I don't like the touch interface very much. I'm used to the sensitivity of my iPhone. The 600's screen takes a lot more force (but still, not much). I know it sounds like a stupid, silly thing, but I'm being honest here. Writing and typing on the 600 takes a similar amount of effort, and that's not what I want.

I looked at the 300, and only two things keep me from it:
a) No Sangria Red
b) No memory slot...
In spite of these I'm tempted to go for this one. I like the look and the feel of the 300. Then again, the 300 is really just a compact 505 (although, with a much faster screen - which I love)

Anyway, My wife is planning on getting me at reader for Christmas, and I'm going to tell her to find me a Red 505 somewhere. Bottom line: Don't believe the videos. Go see it and use it for yourself.

sircastor, I post the same thing. The screen contrast is fine. I've never seen a 700 before and I was really nervous that the 600 would be really bad. I guess since I was expecting the worse, I did not think there was anything wrong with the screen except for a slight glare if you hold it at a certain angle. I own both the PRS-505 and Kindle 2. I would have upgrade to the 600 if not for the fact that I prefer the Daily Edition, which I will order as soon as they make them available for pre-ordering!

It does come in red. The red of the 300 is not "pink" like it looks in photos.

since even the 600 is not that big, does anybody know if the 600 reader can be used in portrait and in landscape mode?

I have to disagree. I saw the 300, all of the colors. The pink one is pink. Not necessarily Barbie pink, but pink none-the-less. It's definitely not the Sangria Red that the 505 (and 600) sell in.

Yeah, if you look at the sonystyles web site it says the 600 comes in red, silver and black and the 300 comes in rose, blue and silver. Rose is a pinkish color.

I have to disagree too! I saw the 300 and a display (not-for-sale) 505, both in red. The red 300 is a cranberry red, very similar to the 505--definitely not pink. The plastic edge protector around the 300 is a bit pinkish, but the case itself is a deeper cranberry color, closer to the 505. Definitely not pink. My eyes are still pretty good.

You might want to give the 300 another look if the screen size is OK, and you're only hesitant about the lack of a memory card slot. The 300 has oodles of memory. I loaded about 110 novels on mine (some are larger pdf files, most are lrf and epub), and still have 360 MB freeout of 443. You can easily carry over a year's worth of reading, with a huge variety, just on the internal memory.
