ROFL! That second one is a perfect image of Zelda looking on as the workman takes it away and lets it go down the street. Only she probably didn't say "Squish it! Squish it!" but instead it was probably "Farther away! Farther away!"

Sorry, couldn't get there fast enough. (5,000Km takes time!) There is a trebuchet load of chocolate coming your way...

(Little feller compared to some of the tarantulas I've seen....Try 25 cms...)

i'm embarassed to say that i did indeed follow the workman all the way out to the street (from a safe distance) saying "farther away !! farther away !! keep going !!"

Right now I'm missing lost MRers Lady Blue (the forum software can go on vacation??) and Alphapheemail. And probably others. It's just not the same around here unless we're all here. Should we perhaps all play ABBA tunes to try to attract them back to The Llounge?

Ralph, you should've seen the one that treed me down in the Everglades a while back. Tim had gone fishing and I planned to spend the day at the pool. So, I'm in the hotel room alone, when I heard the stomping of many feet. Looked around to see this monster scoot in under the door and shoot up the wall! I was all doing a hissy fit, calling the front desk from a safe distance away, screeching, doing the hissy fit dance, etc. The maintenance guy came in and told me that there were not tarantulas in Florida. He took a look at the furry beast, said "Hmm, someone's pet must have gotten away," and went for poison. Now, the Everglades are full of introduced pythons. Coincidence? I think not. I think they think the big hairy spiders are yummy mammals or something!

my cats are just worthless. they will tear through the house after the most inoffensive moth, and the bigger it is the more completely insane they get (i try to rescue them when possible), but with mosquitoes, apparently, they have signed a non-agression treaty, and if they even noticed this spider (not sure, although i really don't know how they could have missed it) they must have decided the outcome of that battle was too uncertain to attempt it.

which hotel was that ? so i can make sure to NEVER GO THERE. oh wait, florida ? never mind. i already know i'm never going to florida. i hear they have cockroaches the size of my arm, and they fly.

about those snakes... maybe the spiders came after the snakes !!! what makes you so sure which is eating which ????

Yep, not a Tarantula. They like deserty climates. Probably a cane spider or a central american banana spider. They get big and are brown (and aggressive). They like wet, tropical, climates....

Well, I've got a yard full of nice lizards. (American Anoles, they change color from brown to green and back). The males display by doing push-ups and sticking out a red neck flap. They don't bother people and are cute to watch...

(And they eat all sorts of bugs...)
