oh, and getting back to the original topic, i just thought of a detail of my fridge : it has the freezer on the bottom, with 2 drawers. this is really good because it takes less energy to keep it cold, being on the bottom, and the drawers make it easy to use all the space efficiently. although in my case, the drawers are infuriatingly too small for many things. but if you want a freezer i like that disposition very well.

We did't go for the water/ice dispenser model. We like our 18.9L (5 gal) bottled water cooler and don't really want to replace any filters or add any plumbing that fridges might have. We just bought all new kitchen appliances and went with Sears Kenmore Elite. So far they look and work great. The fridge has the bottom mount freezer which works great and makes a lot more sense, although I still find myself opening the freezer door thinking it is a vegetable crisper. ![]() We went with white, easier to clean than stainless steel, and I think SS will be out of style down the road. There are some great deals on appliances right now. We saved a bundle, and by doing that we also bought a 5 year extended warranty. New appliances don't last like the ones from the good old days. WDE. |

Well, we had a normal sized freezer. But it wasn't big enough anymore... Those frozen apple bits have all those weird shapes and take more space than they should. And then we got the grapes (made jelly from those) and some plum jelly and fries and pizzas and veggies and ... actually, everything that is on sale and can be stored in the freezer is in there, and everything from our fruit trees and bushes!

We have a GE that the builders installed in our new house 6 years ago (meaning I didn't choose it, the builders did). There is already rust spots under the ice/water dispenser on the front even though I clean the darn thing all the time. David has had to repair the door at least once. Bottom line: the GE products that we've had have not been reliable and are expensive to repair. I'm with DGma and would have picked Kenmore instead.

oh if it matters to you, most stainless fridges won't take magnets so putting up kids artwork, playing with all of the magnetized word games and such won't work. and they show kid fingers and dog nose smudges like crazy! |

I think it depends on the form of the fridge itself. |

there are so many types, brands and color options... so it seems not so easy to make the right choice...

My older kids used to leave me the strangest messages with the word magnets on our refrigerator and then wouldn't let me change them!

I was careful to say "some" of the stainless fridges, as I had a rather embarassing corrective moment once. |
