I hope the mods decide to start a PRS 600 section on the forums soon. We need one given all the threads being started

I know that you were torn between black and silver.
I've read your posts and they helped a lot already :-)
*silver doesn't get too warm under direct sunlight
*silver doesn't look cheap (like plastic)
*silver makes the screen optically wider
Now, I am convinced and I am happy with my decision.
Of course, there are also many pro arguments for the black device
but please don't mention them. I don't want to change my order again :-)
I went to a shop to see the silver PRS-505 today morning. It looks great!
When do you receive your 600? I will get receive mine in mid September.

What are the arguments for/against Black?

I believe black is supposed to optically improve contrast, as the screen will appear whiter surrounded by a black bezel than by a silver bezel. Are there any other advantages/inconvenient?

Hi there,

I just pre-ordered a sony 600 today from Bol.com in the Netherlands. I had a black one in my shopping cart, but decided to switch to silver. I already own a Bebook which is black and a girl just has to accessorize I must say I was a bit taken aback by all the posts about screen issues. Oh well, I ordered it anyway, so I'll get back to you on this when mine is delivered. Bol will be shipping out from September 2nd (fingers crossed). I only got the Bebook in June, but the whole e-reading thing is getting to be a new hobby for me now. Reading the forum, struggling with formats, even tried out some scripts. I used to be an avid reader, and I'm fast becoming one again!

Now it would be a great moment, because we got some threads in the PRS-505 section and others in the PRS-700 one. A bit more order would be less annoying for users watching said forums for the 505 and the 700

Also, may I suggest a little section for the Sony ebookLibrary somewhere in the software section? I know there are some threads open here and there (not the least for Mac support... which is seriously lacking at the moment) and having them together would make it all less hazy.

Found out the sonystyles store does have the red touch screen & the brown cover in stock and that is the combo I decided on anyway so I ordered! A relief now that I did it. Been debating it for weeks :-) So my cybook opus as much as I like it will be given to my husband who wanted one anyway so it all works out. I should receive it Monday as I decided to go for expedited shipping.

That's exactly what my boyfriend said when I told him the story! LOL.... Although, you might have a point. Later on that night, and I'm not sure exactly how this happened, but I had a lengthy conversation, with my boyfriend, about how my behavior towards the Sony readers was very similar to how an addict would behave. I don't know how this happened, but much to my surprise, he then said that I deserved a present and he had been thinking of getting me something anyway, so he said he'd buy it for me.

Perhaps I should work for Sony after all!

Do any of you know how long to 505 was out before they replaced it with the 300? How long was the 700 out before the 600? I'm just curious how long Sony kept the line up and running.

I don't know about the 505, but the 700 came out last October/November.

PRS-505 was released in October 2007, PRS-700 in October 2008 (and PRS-500 in October 2006).

300 does not replace 505

i see, but basically a new model or more every year. interesting... will have to save for the upgrades

It's a little bit weird that after 2 years and all these new models the screen of the 505 is still the best one...
