Robert, I like having all the Astak threads together in one place. Like AnemicOak, I always check the new posts, so I see the threads there too.

Perhaps when the day comes that Astak actually ships the Pocket Pro to its customers that would be a news event.

I understand he is the owner here??? And following the brouhaha that occurred before the Astak thread was created it is clear that different people here have different opinions on news versus spam. For me, I'd think posting of a shipping date would be news, but I just can't tell what would slip over the line to the others.

Then again, once they actually get into user's hands some of the users will probably post their own 'news' about getting their units. I've noticed, for example, that there is no problem with users posting their own receipt and reviews of new Sony 600's.

I put up a new NEWS thread today announcing shipping starting in three days. It was up all of 16 minutes before it was removed! I am now forbidden, I guess, to have any news.

HOW, if I cannot do true news, do I get people interested? Sony is pulling them in like mad for a stripped device and I am forbid to compete?

Probably because of 2 main reasons.

1) You are Astak company, not just a simple forum member.

2) 4 Days til shipping isn't really NEWs (not NEW information).

However, if you were to start a thread announcing the pending release of the Mentor line, or something actually consisting of new information, it might not get pulled.

Also, once you get the approval for another format, that would also consist of something new that is added to the EZ line, and hence might also be allowed for you to post.

Otherwise, it'll be up to EZ "users" to post threads in the News & Comm forum. At least, this is the way I would think of things working.

I was glad to hear the news that some of the units will be shipping in 3-4 days.

Now if griffonwing release some of the fifty or so slate blue he has stockpiled, the rest of us would be happier!

I'd agree with this, but maybe instead of posting/staring a thread yourself you or the company should be sending out a press release (to Alexander or Bob or Nate or someone) to MR and other places and let them announce it for you like most other companies would do. Then you can offer something other companies don't by being on hand to answer questions after the news has been put up.

I don't know, just a thought.

The market for ebook needs to be grown. Fora such as these are for the converted and each reader has their own loyalties and favourites. These could be changed, but they rely on independent reviews or comparisons to change their mind. That will be more important than where the thread or news lie.

At the end of it, if you build the better mousetrap, it will attract attention, regardless where the thread is listed.

As a new user to this forum, I initially looked at news about 'new release' as I had no clue which was the best or most suitable, then searched for reviews, before going to the appropriate sub-forum. I still keep an eye on reviews, and scan for new development or announcements, but that would be about it. It is the reviews that count.

The mass population (and untapped market) is unlikely to even look at these forum unless directed here somehow. That is where the effort should be concentrated. Otherwise, you could be putting a lot of effort in trying to convert the converted.

i order the black ezreaderpro 5" a few days ago from ez reader.com and just wondering how the delivery to england would take?

im also confused about when it will be avalible to by over here I read recently it is know by a differnt name (also confused about tec data and if it will have tts this is confusing me) just incase wedecide to get another 1.

The EZ Reader Pocket Pro is a Hanlin V5. This is known by several names in different markets. In England it will probably be available as the BeBook Mini.

The V5 does have TTS, but it isn't available for ePub and PDF ebook formats. Unfortunately, ePub is the format that you would typically buy ebooks in (e.g. from WHSmiths). It isn't yet clear if Adobe will let the V5 have TTS for ePub and PDF - they may have the same problems with publishers that Amazon ran into in the US. There is a work around, but it involves removing the DRM (encryption). Once the DRM has been removed (Adobe ADEPT DRM for EPUB circumvented), the ebook can be shifted to a format, like FB2, that does support TTS using Calibre.

In the UK, removing DRM isn't illegal but format shifting of any kind is. This will come as a surprise to millions of citizens who do it all the time, e.g. ripping a CD to their PC. The law simply isn't enforced when the shifting is for personal use.

I'll let you know as soon as mine arrives in the UK, mind you as mine also left San Fransisco on the 3rd it should arrive at the same time

I don't know which airport the cargo plane will come into so depending on where you are in the country it could be a race to see who gets it first!

I'm not so far from Bristol so hopefully if they come into London it'll be on a quick plane ride to Bristol Airport and then a short journey in the truck to me
