any luck to launch the new ebook library software on Mac? - Page 2

Hi,

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but every time I try to sync my reader (505) it fails and I get a warning telling me that there is "Insufficient space to copy files".

It is also super slow - long lag when I choose a new item in the sidebar.

Sticking to Calibre except for my Sony Store purchases...

(Intel iMac updated 10.5...)

The second time I ran the software it wouldn't fully load, just gave me a non-functioning menu bar and no windows, I think it was because I had a very weak wifi signal. As soon as I turned off my net connection entirely it popped to life. It's been working perfectly ever since, I've booted it 3 or so times since.

If you were syncing your reader with windows before, go to your windows computer (virtual machine, whatever) and turn off syncing of all catalogs, then go back and sync with your mac. I had the same problem, and it turned out it was because it was duplicating a lot of information. It doesn't recognize the collections created on a different computer as being syncable, so it tries to sync all of its data over without erasing/overwriting the stuff that was synced from windows.

Maybe it was a coincidence, and I just needed to let it sit and wait for a few minutes before coming to life. Did you just try leaving it running for a while?

This problem seems common enough that we might each want to report it as a bug to Sony support. If they hear enough complaints maybe they'll fix it in a timely manner.

Mine worked after I changed country setup in System Preferences - International.
I tried Germany because that is a country they accept, then installed again.
Then it works and you can change the country setup again.

I guess because of some copyright issues they don't want us from other countries to use the program. :/

correct, change region settings, uninstall, reboot, re-install, then worked.

From what I gather is happening, eBook Library 3.0 is not seeing a supported region and thus not able to install something due to an incompatible region.

It worked for me also: preferences, international, then (1) change your language to english, and then (2) go to tab "format" and select "USA" from the dropdown menu. Then uninstall the software if you already have installed it, reboot, reinstall (then you're forced to another reboot by the program: thank you Sony for being sucky again) and launch it. Boom!

I'm from Italy, connecting from there and it worked flawlessly. I've also bought some books with my italian credit card, by inserting an american billing address of a cousin of mine

did I miss something or is it not possible to authorize my computer and PRS-505 with the Mac version to be able to read DRM files?

Man, you're a genius. It works (haven't tested out the switch back to Italy in the pref panel) perfectly; I just can't use my debit card at the moment, but having tested it before in the shop I guess it would be ok. Oh, the joy of having all my books in one place instead of a kazillion! And on my main computer! Off I go downloading previous purchases

One question: has anyone tested the software with Snow Leopard?

Yes, it is 100% possible. What would be the point of the software for the Mac if you couldn't authorize your Mac/Reader with it and buy ebooks from the Store?

I have it installed on my Mac and my Mac is authorized without a problem.
