Thanks!

What should I further know when getting the reader? I read about charging the first time it arrives. I believe that, like any other Lithium Ion battery, like in cell phones, first charge must be longer. I'll have plenty of time to read the manual while it's charging. I don't want to spoil the atmosphere by reading it ahead.

This reminds me. I read in a few places that if you consume all the energy in the battery, charging via USB is not possible, and the wall charger would be required. Has anyone ever had this problem? Also, I don't think there's any chance of getting a PSP charger

I'm already gathering some books I'm going to read.

Well, don't be sure you will be able to charge via USB. It not only depends on your book reader, but also on your computer. Some computers have power supplies that are just barely big enough to support their peripherals. As a result, when you put a charging device on the USB, there may not be enough power output to charge the device.

As an example, when I connect my Kindle2 to my laptop for more an hour or so it not only doesn't recharge the K2, but it messes up the K2 battery memory. I assume it has a smart charger. Anyway, for the next day or so my K2 shows that its battery is running out abnormally fast. Even after I recharge it using a wall charger it can still have problems for a day. After a couple of charges it recovers.

I have had two different K2's and they both had this problem.

Sounds like a nasty problem. Have you tried temporarily removing the power from the DVD drive? Or maybe you have multiple hard drives that eat up a lot of the supply's power, you can disconnect the non-primary ones, temporarily. Or, get a more "powerful" power supply.

That's what I would try. But I hope it won't be necessary.

The Bebook also turns pages on the bottom front right hand side. They are the number 9 and 0 buttons.

Thanks, Lake. I knew that, I watched some video reviews on youtube. However, I think it's more confortable to hold the eReader by its lateral rim, rather than by its lower one.

I suppose one solution for right handed lateral buttons would be to rotate the pages in the file by 180 degrees and hold the reader upside-down. I think this is possible with PDFs. Time consuming, though.

I lately experimented a bit with calibre, transforming a PDF into LRF, RTF and 6"-sized PDF. It's a pretty fast process and not uncomfortable to do for every book I put on the reader.

I also found a good PDF splitter (I had a PDF containing a collection of books).

Also, I installed eBook Library from Sony. A quick question here, for 505 users: is the display/formatting identical to what would be seen on the reader itself?

I sent a message to the seller on ebay, asking them about the whereabouts of the package. They said that it had been delivered to my national post service.

I guess it's time to start bugging the clerks at my post office.

Something like:

Quote:
Me: Is it here yet?
Clerk: No.
Me: When does it arrive?
Clerk: I don't know!
Me: How much longer?
Clerk: Don't you have anything better to do?
Me: Well...

Ah! The waiting! Hopefully you get for the weekend so you can start playing with it. I ended up spending an evening or two on setting it up and trying out things and generally figuring out the best way to use it, but after that it has been plain sailing

A grumpy lady at the post office told me that it takes about 3 days for packages to arrive, after entering the country. This means there is a chance to get it by Friday evening!

My sister just called me from home. The delivery notice came from the post office!

I hope I can make time to go this evening and pick it up, otherwise I'll have to wait until Monday .

Later edit: ... I did!!! I picked it up!!!!!! It's great, looking at it, as it sits quietly, charging for the first time.
As I understand, I have to keep it charging until the red LED turns down. Now I'm at the stage when charging icon is not yet displayed on the reader's screen. The manual says it takes 40 minutes.

A little bit more to wait.

Even later edit: the screen came alive! Now it displays an icon and a message on the bottom saying "Do not disconnect". Hmmm, I wonder...

Thumbs up

It's finished charging. I've loaded some books.

It's about time I give it a try.

Again, thank you all who replied and offered your support.

Cheers!

A great charging option is the Sony PSP data/power cable. It connects to usb, and has a mini-usb (for data) and round power plug, both work with the Sony Readers. ANd, you can connect the cable to ANY usb port (wall charger, computer, etc.) to charge the Reader. And use the same cable to transfer books via usb. You can get these cables for around $3 shipped from places like dealextreme in Hong Kong. Or, you can get a PSP charger from any game supply store.

Enjoy your new reading device!!
