)! I'm sure everything will be fine, but Dreams suggestion is definitely a good one. I always promised extra recess time if they were on their best behaviour whenever another adult was in the classroom. It worked like a charm!

That's so funny. Robert Duvall, an actor who has been in a great number of movies including The Godfather, has a horse farm around here somewhere. We'd been here only about a month and I ran into him at our local grocery store. They have a Starbuck's coffee cafe in the store and Ryleigh and I were having a little snack before we started shopping. He was sitting at the table next to us. It took me a while to remember his name when I was telling David about it later. I kept calling him Robert DeNiro! I didn't actually go and bother him but he did talk to Ryleigh for a bit (she was only 2 and cute as a button).

It's just like describing a vinyl record to kid's who've never seen them. I tell them it looks like a DVD only bigger and black!

Just like a keyboard, but you have to hit the keys a whole lot harder and there's no back-up or delete key.

Also, the paper comes right out of the top of the keyboard. There little eyes get as big as saucers and they all go, "OOOOooooo"!

I had to introduce computers to my first graders in a computer lab, which we had once a week. The first thing I told them was that the computer was just a machine and not any smarter than they were. I then went on to explain how computers are able to do what they do. The kids were fascinated . . . for all of 30 seconds!

They were more interested in what kind of games they were going to get to play.

I predict (always a risky thing) that to improve voice recognition for computers to the point that it is nearly perfectly reliable, someone will create a spoken language specifically for this purpose - much like the scripts that were developed for handheld PDAs to improve handwriting recognition. I further predict that the language will be so popular as a replacement for keyboards and pointing devices that many people will begin dropping words and phrases from this new language even in casual conversation.
