The DX is just a tad smaller than one. I don't particularly enjoy reading on my Kindle v.2, it's too small and I page-flip too often. I would also rather have one device, which can comfortably handle novels, as well as magazines. Last edited by Sonist; 08-25-2009 at 06:53 PM.

wow, this is huge. i can't wait to see amazon's response. clearly, sony is a better overall value now. it has more books, library support, google books (which are worthless as far as i'm concerned), wireless with gsm which is better, and a more advanced reader as well.

So do any libraries offer non-resident cards anymore? I know NYPL killed their non-resident offer in June & my library system (Hennepin County Libraries) only offers audiobooks, not ebooks.

Too bad Overdrive couldn't operate as an international library, where anyone could apply for card for differing amounts depending on the amount/type of downloads.

Another thing I see on the web site that I heard no mention of is a way for authors to self-publish their ebooks into the Sony store... http://ebookstore.sony.com/howitworks/ BOb |

I think that's more about the old Mobipocket agreements with resellers. They knew they had to lower prices to get a big market and they couldn't do that if they sold Mobipocket. If they want the textbook/student market, they need to improve PDF support. They'd be fools not to. They, like most big corporations, may be plenty of things but I don't think they're foolish.

I gotta say, after seeing the clearer screen of the 600, I am really hot for the Daily Edition. Unless Apple pulls some stunning trick, I really want to have this device, I just think it looks great, smart and versatile. One other question, what kind of book light would work with it? Would the long screen cause some problems for it? Last edited by Donnageddon; 08-25-2009 at 10:16 PM. |

The DC Public library site says " Your temporary library card number is good for 30 days from the date of issuance You must come in to your nearest branch to get your permanent card before your temporary library card number expires" The full list of epubs available on overdrive can be viewed at http://search.overdrive.com/default.asp A search for epubs only shows 500 matches... but thats only the first 500 from "1" to "ALL". Heh. Last edited by gregcd; 08-25-2009 at 10:46 PM. |
