Will Amazon counter?

Maybe Amazon in light of Sony's annoucement will counter with something like folders for the Kindle. This is a feature that users have been asking for since the dawn of time, ok well not that long, but as long as the Kindle Classic has been out. Content management on the Kindle is long overdue, does anyone know if the new Sony Daily Reader will have folders? Gotta tell ya, (1) folders, (2) wireless downloads (which is why I bought the Kindle) and (3) touchscreen is VERY appealing to me. I'm just saying.

P.S. Forgot to mention expandable memory slot which the K1 had and it was removed from the K2

If there are any libraries left still doing out-of-town memberships you could buy one of those. We have a Wiki page here,

As far as I understand it, that is exactly what it means. Just like with a PBook, they have to buy/rent a copy to lend, they must buy/rent an e-copy they can then lend.

I checked with my local library last week, who uses Overdrive for their audio book, and the basic response, was "we have no plans to offer "e-books".

The scripts that you must use to use Mobipocket library books on Kindle do not strip the DRM, and the books still expire (will no longer open) after the check-out term.

Same here... but I get content at place OTHER than Amazon, mostly from FeedBooks and MobileReads free libraries. What I meant if you could get content ONLY from Sony ebook store it wasn't that useful... although, I assume that will include all the Google PD stuff.

If you use kindlefix script it is NOT removing the DRM, only allowing the book to be read on the Kindle. Of course, using this method ties the book to a single Kindle.

At least some people took that to mean that All Sony readers would have access to the NYPL.

I wonder if out of town (paid) membership was against OverDrive's TOS for public libraries. They do have a Corporate Service, which is also available to "associations", and seems to provide the same titles.

There are also scripts that remove Mobipocket DRM and Adept DRM. Since most of the books are Adobe, I am most often removing Adept DRM and converting the book.

That would definitely violate the policy and intent of the library.

Interesting question. I would guess not since it's up to the library to buy enough copies to support their membership. Wider membership probably translates into more book purchases from Overdrive.

Policy, yes. Intent, I disagree. I'm checking out the book and not keeping it beyond the specified time. I'm not redistributing it. How does that violate their intent?

I may be wrong but I think you can have multiple PIDs registered at Overdrive.

That is the same response I got. But doing a little research, I found my little library has a reciprocal arrangement with the Chicago Public Library. The main branch is only 3 blocks from my office, and I went in and signed up. I think you have to do it in person.

Just measure the screen, the ratio is more of 16:9, so it can't be 1024x600 resolution. It'll be terrific if it's 1280x720.

EDIT: indeed, I just did it again, the 7" has a slightly wider screen than 6", if the photo didn't lie.

It'll make a perfect 2-column PDF reader -- just flip 1/2 page a time -- well if its software can actually support it.

Overdrive is a service that makes audiobooks, videos and ebooks *available* to local libraries. It's up to the libraries which service they subscribe to and which materials they choose to make available.

My local library uses Overdrive for audiobooks and video, but not ebooks at all, so you're marginally better off than I am, in that regard.

But then I look at my ocean view and stop complaining.
