Not in my case i think. "half" the display was broken and there are two display chips. But of course it could have been a broken connection also.

Well, that might be me drawing to much conclusions. Half my screen was malfunctioning. Bookeen said "One of the display chips seems to be defective.". So I assumed that one of two display chips was broken. But I realize now that that is not the only interpretation.

Ok, I understand, look at the image I inserted in my post

The things I circled are the "drivers" (or what they called "display chips")

The current eInk Vizplex screen is a little different (this photo seems to come from an early prototype, there is now only two drivers on the border (instead of three on this photo or it is bigger than 6 inch)

So this could be what they call "display chips" in your case. I doubt that an defective Apollo chip could led to the symptom you had.

The "drivers" can be damaged from a lot of reason, from a real defective screen, to bend, hits etc...
And this is not necessarily due to a broken glass.

Ahhh... there are two "display chips"... that explains a lot. In my case the top half of the screen stopped changing pages when I hit the page forward button. Initially I could go back and then forward again and it fixed it. Then the top half of the screen got totally wonky (for lack of a better term) and it took much fussing with forward and backward page turns to make it readable again. During this time I noticed that I could reliably reproduce the problem if I held the right side of the Cybook firmly near the middle. Since I normally read by folding the cover back, holding the Cybook between my right thumb and index finger at about the midpoint, placing the rest of my fingers on the backside of the cover, and turning the page with my thumb I assumed that I had somehow caused this problem by introducing some bending into the right side of the Cybook. When it got to the point where paging forward and back wouldn't fix the problem, I grasped my Cybook at the top and bottom and gently twisted. It has been working fine since then. Knowing that there are two display chips makes me suspect that the connection between the two is somehow loose. This is the reason I will try to avoid buying from Bookeen in the future. Simply reading in the manner I describe should not have harmed my device. It has never been dropped or abused in any way.
