The episodes that were part of the alien invasion/colonization/conspiracy arc were doom & gloom & paranoia.
The stand alone episodes could be really laugh-out-loud funny, poking fun at the series itself. As in one episode where a movie was being made of the X-Files with Garry Shandling and Tea Leoni as the stars. Inside jokes abound!

one of the few p-books I'm still reading, I couldn't find any *proper* ebook versions yet:

"The Bonehunters" by Steven Erikson. I truly love the series to which this book belongs, "The Malazan Book of the Fallen". An incredible epic read, good written and with an astounding collection of gods, races and people. And next to that some pretty good characters as well. I'm sold!

Just had a look at the reviews on librarything and amazon... it looks like the series is enjoyable if you manage to get past the first volume

I added it to my Amazon shopping cart, maybe I'll even buy it some day. Not sure I'll like it but it does sound worth a try.

I started out keeping a list of what I'd read/am reading in August, for a Yahoo Group I'm in that people do that. The sticky note on my desktop got outgrown in about two weeks.
But I remember most of it, I think. I got into an urban fantasy mood back around the first of the month, so I read the latest in Rachel Caine's Weather Wardens series, and the first in her new series about Cassiel, Undone.
Then I still wanted more, so I read Night Huntress and Demon Mistress by Yasmine Galenorn, part of her Sisters of the Moon series. Both of those have been on my TBR pile for a while.
Back to cozies, then, I read Wreath of Deception by Mary Ellen Hughes, Sheila Connolly's One Bad Apple, Jennie Bentley's Spackled and Spooked, and the latest, Julie Hyzy's State of the Onion. I'm also still working my way through The Case of the Tough Talking Turkey by Claudia Bishop on the BlackBerry.

I'm currently reading Soul Identity by Dennis Batchelder. I highly recommend it especially since it'll only cost you 1 cent to read it.

So, I finished _Mistborn_ and looked on my Kindle and saw _Prauge_... so I started reading that. It was having a bit of a slow start. But, then my wife asked me if I was wanting to read _First Meetings in Enders Universe_. It is a pbook she has out from the library. So, I decided to read that instead. It is pretty good so far. It will be a quick read, it is a small book.

Then... I just bought _Soul Intent_ and _Soul Identity_ for $1 and will probably read those next... maybe. Still also want to get to _The Lens_.

If I manage 100 pages today, I'll treat myself to a frothy romance.
doreenjoy, I followed your lead and downloaded and just finished this one. You're right it was 'hardboiled'. Don't think I've ever read a book where the protagonist ends up like that. Anyway, thanks for the tip.

What I want to say is this: "Holy Crap, Batman!"

I'm reading the most enjoyable book I've read in a long time: "The Shadow of the Wind," by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

This is a literary mystery novel that is fun to read. It engages the mind, the intellect, and the heart. A great read - I'm only 1/2 through it.

Highly, highly recommended. Go to Amazon and read the reviews. This book is loved by many, many people.

"Holy Crap, Batman!"

...
Just in case you don't know, Carlos Ruiz Zafon has just recently released a prequel to The Shadow of the Wind called The Angel's Game. I have yet to read it, so I can't comment on it, but I did enjoy The Shadow of the Wind.

Cheers,
Marc

I also liked The Shadow of the Wind a great deal.
So I lent it to my partner, who was seriously irritated by the errors. ("What!, everybody knows that Le Monde started publishing in 1944! Not earlier!" etc) Moral: don't lend historical novels to historians of that period.
