Not enough for me to change.

Hi - not sure if I'm intepreting this right, but on Sony.ca the measurements are: 300 = 6.2 x 4.2 x .2 and the 505 6.9 x 4.8 x.3. (LWD) Isn't that saying the 300 is in fact thinner?

You know I think this all a matter of opinion. I would wait to see & try them in person, before ordering IMHO. I have the 700 and I think that it is wonderful. I checked them (505 vs. 700) out at a Sony Store which helped me make the choice easily. I have no trouble with the clarity or glare. But then I don't work in an office type setting and that kind of lighting.
So, it's a very personal decision!

Wachuko - without a doubt if readability is your primary concern, you want an ebook that has the best screen. This is the PRS-505. It will have a firmware update, I understand, and at any rate supports all the same formats in the current revision.

After looking at them side-by-side (see the video I just uploaded) I am returning the PRS-600. I really wanted to like it, but there is too much a compromise on the screen to get the other benefits of the PRS-600.

Hi Rebarnmom - yes, it is a matter of opinion, and ultimately up to each individual which features we prefer. The PRS-600 isn't unreadable and under certain lighting the differences are muted, I'm sure.

Personally, I'm disappointed couldn't find some way to provide the 505's screen quality whilst providing touch-screen capabilities too.

I was expecting that the contrast and clarity would be less than 505 (otherwise why continue it since they are close in price)...but the glare...
how bad is the glare compared to 505? is there much difference or just slightly more glare on 600?
From your comment on glare in the earlier post I got the feeling that the glare is very obvious and that it really detracts from the pleasure of reading..

I am only the slightest bit disappointed, because by your video and pics (Thank you BTW!) it looks like they have improved on it. Every little bit helps. And I suspect they'll keep working on it, until they get it right or it becomes a non-issue. Sony has proven to me that they are listening to our comments and addressing them as best they can at this point in time. Having your pics and video are great, but I don't think I'd purchase any electronic device based on pics alone. And I wouldn't want someone to base their decision on my opinion of the device and be disappointed. It's also true that anything you buy today will become outdated as soon as you walk out the door with it. Would I have wished that I had waited for the 600, rather than buying the 700 when I did? No, because I've had a good 8 months of enjoyment from that device.

Just saying, that for that kind of money, I want to hold it in my hands, before I commit, rather than deal with having to return it if I'm unhappy with it. But that's just me.

Hi all,

For those interested, I posted in the prs600 thread this morning after doing a hands-on photo session + movie in my local sony store. Take a look here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=53402&page=4 , second post, and check out the previous page for further impressions.

I went to the local SonyStyle store and was able to compare the 505 with the 700...

It must be the first time I don't buy the latest available gadget... I bought the 505.

The difference in the quality of the text was beyond my ability to justify getting the 700 or 600 for their additional cool features. The glare and lack of crisp text just made it difficult to wait for the 600 or buy the 700. As much as I loved the touch screen I just could not bear reading from it.

Thank you everyone. Now to buy and download a few books, wooohoooo!!!

Well I don't own a Sony. I have a Kindle 2 and a Kindle DX. I pre-ordered the 600 in red last week. I can't wait!

Can Someone help me?
I want to know if Sony Digital reader is available in Stores in Montreal. If so, which and where?
I have been looking for one for a very long time. But not been able to get it as I live in India, and it is not available here.
My uncle will go to Montreal next week. I have asked him to look for it there.
If someone can guide me, Please.. I would really appriciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Subul,

I'm not from Canada so i cant help but I don't think you will have any problems finding the readers by next week. it's just that in Canada it seems it has been slowly getting to shops before the expected release date which was the 25th.

Thanks Lev, knowing it might be available, is a great relief. Hopefully he'll find it at some store there.

I was thrilled to get it so early as well! It comes with 11 "books" installed, but really they are just samples and snippets. Nothing worth reading.

It does have the V3 of the Library software embedded, but it is apparently just a download application to the Sony web-site and it FAILS to install on either a Mac or Windows ("an error occurred while downloading software, please check internet connection and try again").

I actually bought two of these units. I'm sorry to say that one is certainly going back - my friend's first comment (an eBook newbie) was that the glare would give him migraines.

At any rate, for those of you anxious to see, here's some initial low-res pics and a video including a side-by-side comparison of the 505 and 600..
Excellent side by side comparison video. I wonder how it compares to the PRS700.
