Probably when this one breaks down, I'll buy a LCD, but right now it's working perfectly, no reason to replace it. And the colours on this thing is better than on any other LCD monitor I've seen

You mean probably you'll *have to* buy an LCD. Unless you are willing to buy & can find a used CRT. (I might be wrong-maybe they are still making new CRT's, but I haven't seen any for sale for the past year, at least.)

Haven't really looked at LCD's as this monitor is still working perfectly after 6 years. It was one of the top of the line models back then though...
To go back on topic: I've watched most of those movies now, and the first three are fun to wach, the rest became more redicilous and unbelievable. (though, the one with the book selection actually looked genuine) Somebody should make those movies again, but then more realistic... |

I haven't been able to watch the movies yet (blocked while I'm here at work) but one comment did get me thinking. I'm not sure why, but I like buying eBooks much better when I'm buying a specific book. Browsing in an eBook store seems almost painful compared to browsing in a brick & mortar store.
Somehow I feel certain that it doesn't have to be that way, that it's just a matter of the 'state of the art'. Sort of like the (minor) frustration I have when reading an eBook. Basically it's too difficult to flip back & forth thru the pages trying to look something up. Examples: A book with a map at the beginning. For the first few chapters, at leasat, I keep flipping back to the map to see where the places that are mentioned exist in relationship to each other. Or a list of characters. This can be done with links-but that takes work, usually on the author's part. Maybe some day there will be software to create these links automatically. Then it'll be a question of whether or not the readers want every single name in a book to be underlined. Seems to me that could be distracting-I'd rather leave it to somebody's judgement as to which & how often names should be linked. A book with a progressive plot. I guess that's the best way to explain it. Say on page 20 it mentions that Dave is Charlie's son. Then it doesn't mention Charlie for another 80 pages & when it does, it expects you to remember who he is. Sometimes it's not important-other times I flip back & skim thru until I find where it mentioned Charlie, then refresh my memory before resuming my reading. Yes, all that can be done in an eBook-setting bookmarks, etc. But it's just too difficult. (For one thing, bookmarks are permanent. What I need for this is the electonic equivalent of sticking your finger between the pages to keep your place. Once you return to it the 'bookmark' disappears.) |

I think nobody implies that buying and reading ebooks is perfect right now. There most certainly is room for improvement. But those videos (especially the latter ones) are just so over the top that it's not funny anymore. They could have done those movies much better and still get the same response.
(take the falling asleep video for example, I was thinking it would be about the book dropping on the floor, and the person waking up and continuing to read, while the Kindle would have a crack or something. That would have been more realistic than getting blood all over the walls because the kindle fell on your head...) |

Yeah, the videos were a bit daft, but I think their hearts are in the right place with regard to the business they're trying to support. They're certainly not causing any huge exodus away from the likes of Amazon in any event.
I was a bit amused by the premise of the one where the book guy was suave and the Kindler fell flat. It wasn't quite was I was thinking, but it was related. Had I made the video...the book could have started a conversation about the book, but the Kindle would only start a conversation about the Kindle. That's a phenomenon I have encountered a few times. |
