@Riocaz: Hergé was Belgian, not French.

My point is about Asterix though. And the artist Albert Uderzo is French

I think kids know about racisim at an early age already. I mean look at what happened to the cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the cartoon, none of the characters are white. Now look at the movie. All but one character is white and the non-white character is the bad guy in the movie. They don't need to hide the racist books from 50 years ago when stuff like this is still happening.
What type of message does this send to children and adults??? |

Don't forget Jasmine
And admittedly not a "disney princess" Mowgli was supposed to be an Indian boy. |

And before the little mermaid (1989), they hadn't made a "princess" film since the 50s.
So they went from 3 princesses, to 8 with 3 "minority" princesses within a decade. We've also left out "Princess Kidagakash" from Atlantis in the "not-white" pricesses list but apparently so has Disney. Though her look was supposedly south american/polynesian based on the "atlantis" of the film. Last edited by Riocaz; 08-21-2009 at 02:31 PM. |

My point was that even something considered so "family friendly" as Disney is taking its time to overcome the prejudices of the past. While the majority of Disney movies aren't overtly racist, the fact that it took Disney so long to add minority princess bears consideration.

Disney also never made a movie about a Dutch geek boy, bunch of freaking racists!
Does Disney have some kind of obligation to make movies with a set number of "minorities" or other special interest groups that I am not aware of? |
