Wow! Your happiness just made me happy too! Sending a big squooshy hug to you and your wife!!

i'm happy because of the above too. (well, not abba, obviously, but since it's slite, i don't even mind that too much... but don't tell anyone. i'll deny that in public.)

I like cooking hot cocoa on the stove, serving it in out tall glasses with the metal handles, with two marshmallows on top and two on the side. I like it so much I just did it.

I like that Oscar (my dog) crawled up on the bed this morning, stepped over between us, and lay behind me with his head on my pillow.

I like the smell of the sea coming off a light surf while my feet absorb the warmth of the sand.

I like kookaburras on the power pole out front chuckling up a sunrise or a sunset.

I like slicing off a large piece of Parmigiano-Reggiano and just savouring it for itself.

The smell of mangoes makes me, quite literally, giddy.

On a warm summer night, the feel of the marginally cooler water in the pool directly caressing me all over, including the skinny-dipped googly bits, while I float on my back and look up through the cane palms at the stars.

A "decisive moment" perfectly captured.

Cooking long and slow and having the result come out more than worth the hours.

Bodysurfing a large wave all the way into shore from out the back, right up to the point where you actually "beach" yourself.

The Loved One, laughing uncontrollably at something on TV (almost inevitably Australia's Funniest Home Videos the subject video being rewound and slow-mo'd repeatedly by myself, to maintain the hysteria).

Honey-joys.

Well, if I tell you, I have to kill you

OK, seriously ....

Once upon a time I got myself one of them fancy educations I had been hearing so much about. It was a shiny diploma that roughly translates to a bachelor in computer science.
Sadly some kind of bubble had just burst and I couldn't even get replies on my applications.

Fast forward a few years and you would find me struggling to get my own business going.

A few years later still, you could find me working as a day to day temp in factories of all kinds.
One day I got hired by one of the factories. This was a electronics factory and I really liked that job.
They soon discovered that I was an able programmer and I got more and more assignments that made use of that. For some time they wanted to hire me as a programmer permanently. It never got around to that though.

About a year ago my mother made me sign up on facebook, and shortly after that an old friend from my education popped up (on facebook) and asked me if I wanted a job where he worked.
I went to interviews and accepted the job as supporter.
That was last November and right on cue, some bubble burst.
They soon discovered that I am an able programmer and I got more and more assignments that made use of that (see the pattern here? ).

Then last month the überboss scheduled a meeting with me ... He never does that!
It turns out that he wanted to offer me a job as a full time programmer starting from 1. September

The past two weeks I have been involved in taking ownership of an application that was developed out of the house since 8 years ago. Today I finally accomplished to make it compatible with windows server 2008 x64, a feature that has been much coveted by the management for the last year or so.

I can't tell you how good it feels to finally be successful in the line of work that I do best

Anyway, you asked for the long version, so I don't want to hear any complaints

No complaints, and in fact, I'm tickled pink for you! You pulled off the impossible and congratulations! My husband had a similar thing happen to him when he got his Associate degree in electronic repair, and that signaled the switch to worldwide disposable cheap PC's. There was no longer much of a market for computer repairmen. It turned out OK in the end, but he had a few disappointing years there.

Thanks for sharing your good news!!

Neato, I've read about Italy using Newfies as standins for David Hasslehoff and Pamela Anderson. When i win the lottery and can quit working altogether and spend my days mucking around with my then large gaggle of goggies which will most definitly include a Newfie (along with a couple of more berneses and most likely an english mastiff mainly because they are so immensly cool dogs) i sure wanna train him for waterrescue!

They referenced this in the movie, "Must Love Dogs". As usual, my kids LOVED the dog in the movie, a newfie called Mother Teresa, and decided that would be the next dog we would get. Thankfully, I talked them out of it. We just don't have the yard for a dog that big. Congratulations to your pup, Krisk!
