I have come to the conclusion, IMHO, that there are no such things as stable software or hardware, just that some are less unstable than others.

(Déjà vu moment...I surely have come to this conclusion before.)

So I have a chestnut three (or something like that) in my garden, which has grown too big for my garden and is now having branches hanging over my neighbour's carport. So after speaking with a professional, I have decided that it needs to be cut down.

Price: around 2000 $

Definitely looks like a chestnut tree and also looks far too close to the buildings

Is there anyone locally who would be able to make use of the wood, in return for them cutting it down?

I can probably sell the wood for maybe 2-400 $. But since it is so close to other houses I definitely need to get it cut down by professionals (with insurance). The sad thing is that those other houses were built just 5 years ago. So it being close to other houses is really none of my or the trees doing.

And I do think it's a shame to cut down a tree that might be up to 50 years old. But it can't be helped, I suppose.

That's a shame, it's a beautiful tree. You should check with the city if you have to cut it down. Could it be trimmed instead?
Some cities will require a permit to cut a tree down.

Chestnut is not really a usable wood.
And I would really shop around for a better price, that company is abusive.
