zelda, thanks for giving it a try. I’ve just given away the dust bunny army, so I can’t offer you that. How about a nice potato?

What? Why do you all look confused? What’s wrong with a potato?
well, i must say i'm disappointed not to get a dust bunny, then again i've got no shortage of them myself thanks to the cats (i should call them dust kittens though, they're primarily composed of cat fur). a potato could be nice. is a new potato ? those are my favourites.

uhhhmm, new huh? Well, you see, it's like this - what I have here is... well, it's more of a rock than a potato. If I tell you it's new, you're going to be even more disappointed that it's not a dust bunny or dust kitten. If, however, you accept it to be a really old potato, you might think it's a petrified potato.

As to what frightened it, I really can't say.

well, a petrified potato has the advantage of being a novelty item (ar ar ar) so i'd be very flattered to have it. i'm truly humbled by your generosity ; first stories, and now a petrified potato. i'm not worthy !

Hey Jeff

Just started in on the first part of Delver Magic, haven't gotten very far into it, but I have to say it looks like a very promising read... "The delver's being the only none human race in existance" indeed

I hope there are talking otters! Please tell me there are talking otters? Mudge from the Spellsinger chronicles is one of my all time fantasy fav chars.

If not... you should defintly consider talking otters in your next fantasy romp!

Of course there are talking otters!

Who do you think is narrating the story?

uhmmm, in all honesty, there are no talking otters. I'm pretty sure I mention a potato in there, or maybe it's a carrot. It gets eaten, just so you know.

Hmmm, was it an otter that ate it? If not... as stated, next book, talking otters that eat potatoes and carrots... Deal?

Deal.

Talking carrots and petrified potatoes eating and terrorizing the poor otters.

Great, sounds like a nice story to read to the kids, perhaps on Christmas Eve.

I'll be gone for a while, so if anyone has any questions, don't think the petrified potato ate me.

Can the petrified potato have an army of penguin slaves, that ride llamas into battle?

Jeff - I don't know if you will get tired of hearing this but I would like to add my THANKS to those that have already been given for allowing us to read your books. I have downloaded all three books in the Delver Trilogy and they are queued up to be read next. Like many others, my TBR list is growing like "a weed in the Amazon". I think that is how you put it. Again, thank you for sharing your talent with us readers. Much appreciated!

Absolutely! The llamas will spit (as they are known to do) but they will spit lava! (Insert evil laugh here.)

Indeed, this petrified potato led penguin cavalry will be needed to quell the violent uprising of the vicious otter-eating carrot horde.

chilady, thanks for giving the Delver Magic series a try. I appreciate it, but I must admit I'm a bit surprised. After the appearance of the petrified potato in this thread, I feared the Delver stories would wilt in comparison. Once you hit the creative height of a petrified potato, well there's no where to go but down.

Still, while they may not reach the unparalleled stature of stony spuds, I hope you find some enjoyment in these tales.

And just for trying Delver Magic, we'd like to send you this free vegetable slicer! Yes, it slices, it dices, it cuts and cubes, it even makes julienne vegetables. All you have to do is pay shipping and handling charges.

I've finished Delver Magic 2 and (thankfully) there's no mention of carrots, narrating otters, squirrels and potatoes. I sincerely hope this trend continues through DM3, as it's right up there on my TBR list.

DM2 was another great story, with my favourite characters in abundance. I really like Holli - she's strong, capable and consistent.

Now that I've googled them, I can appreciate the awesome gift of the dust bunny army that you bestowed on me, jinlo. I have some bunnies that are more like tumbleweeds, but I guess they can be defeated by the army, too. We could make a new dog and cat each year out of all the fur we sweep up.

Thanks for the Delver Magic trilogy, jinlo! These books are nothing like I'd expect from you!

Thank you, cbell. I'm happy you enjoyed DM2 and I wish to reward you again for your kind words. Since you liked the dust bunny army, this time I give to you the soap scum navy. It is a scurvy lot, but it is a force nigh invulnerable. Use these powers wisely, use them well.
