And that did the trick :-) Thank you very much, wallcraft! I gave it a go with "ABC Amber Palm Converter" (seems like a very decent program) before and as it put out only gibberish I assumed that the books were encrypted. Good to know that I can get all of my previously purchased books over to the K2.

It's taken me a month, working on this off and on and reading each new entry into each dedrm thread, but I finally got this to work! I'm so happy I celebrated by buying a bunch of books in ereader that are not available in .lit.
Huge thanks to all of you! ![]() ![]() ![]() Doing the happy dance, Jane |

Would you copy here the line of code you're typing in at the command prompt (this assumes, I'm afraid, you're on a Windows computer - if not, skip to the next post!)

ereader2html help
Quote:
I have python25 in c:/ebookutil. I put my pdb file in that folder as well. I click on er.exe. A command prompt pops up with the following questions which I reply thus: Input file name: HolidayinDeath Your name: "Mary E Drake" Credit Card Number: xxxxxxxx Output Directory: C:\ebooks Mostly the response is ........ then the box closes and that is that. I was parallel processing while doing this and got script (presumably error codes) that disappeared too fast to read. I'll be very grateful if you can help. I bought half a dozen ereader books thinking I could sort this out. It doesn't help that my daughter emails to say she's done it and it's easy! Mary |

I've never used the executable version (EXE) of this script. This might be dumb, but did you try entering the full filename? Your example says HolidayinDeath, but assuming the file is an eReader file, the full name would be HolidayinDeath.pdb, right?
Using the python script requires the full (with the ".pdb") filename. |

It might help if I could read the error messages. If I go through start and run to cmd.exe and use shighfield's script I get " 'python' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" Do I need to redownload python? Although as I said if I work from er.exe I get the right questions - I just can't seem to give the right answers. ![]() |

It might not be something to do with the script or program. If you are using the self-executing er.exe, you don't need to download python at all.. Just make sure that you unpack everything in a folder and the book file needs to be in the same folder. You don't need to put in quotes if there are spaces in the filename or your name.
It should work. When did you buy the book? Could it be you're using an old CC to buy it? |

Editing here to add...I know nothing about this self executing script er.exe...haven't tried it. I use python and the ereader2html.py script directly. But, the error here sounds like either python is not installed or the script and python are not in the same directory/python is not in the system path. First question: After you downloaded python, you did run the file to install it, right? The version of python I downloaded was a file python-2.5.2.msi; then after downloading a double clicked on it to run/install. Just want to verify that you did that Second, you can try this: (directions given based on Windows XP) right click on your My Computer icon and go to Properties. Go to the Advanced tab. Click on the Environment variables button. In the botton half of the dialog there is a list of "system variables" and their values. Find the variable titled "Path" and single click on it to highlight. Then click the "Edit" button. Go to the END of the data that is in the "Variable Value" box. Then add the location where you have python. Example: I have python in c:\python25, so at the end of the existing data, I would add ";c:\python25" (without the quotes--but make sure to include the semicolon!). Then click OK, and OK, and Apply to get back out. This adds the python location to your path so that no matter where it is called from, the system knows where to find it. |

still trying
Dear all, Tried all that on my Windows XP, thank you for your suggestions, but without different outcome. Also used various books bought in last fortnight just in case it was book download.
SO... thought when in doubt start again and deleted the python25 which I got from esnips. Went to python.org and downloaded python2.6.2. No problem. Now have folder C:/python26. Into this folder I moved HolidayinDeath.pbd Double clicked on python.exe and got my little black box into which I typed ereader2html.py "HolidayinDeath.pbd" "C:\python26\HolidayinDeath" "Mary E Drake" xxxxxxxx Result File "<stdin>", line 1 ereader2html.py "HolidayinDeath.pbd" "C:\python26\HolidayinDeath" "Mary E Drake" xxxxxxxx ^ Syntax Error: Invalid Syntax New strategy=new error Thank you all for your patience - I'm hoping it can hold on a little longer. Surely I must be close? |

Don't click on python.exe. Run command prompt.
You can either go to Start Menu -> Run -> type in "cmd" and press enter or go to Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt Change to folder C:\python26 You'd probably get something like this when command prompt starts. C:\Documents and Settings\Username> Type in cd \ then cd python26 Then, you can key in the ereader2html line. Code:
ereader2html.py HolidayinDeath.pdb HolidayinDeath "Mary E Drake" xxxxxxxx |

Your first post said you were using a file named er.exe. Do you have the plain script named "ereader2html.py"? And for what it's worth, I don't have to enter the ".py" when I run the script.
