I hadn't heard "bogan" before, so I did a quick Wiki look-up..

"..English slang terms chav or pikey, Scottish ned, Irish scanger or spide, Dutch tokkie, and the North American white trash, redneck, or hillbilly."

Makes sense now.

Really? I thought trolls were tiny wrinkled men with big poofy hair that are collected by old women.

Aren't those the ones that was called "pen-trolls" because they had a hole in their butt and you could place them on top of your pencil?

And i think the whole concept is Danish to begin with?

Those were BIG (or "in") when I was a kid, so they are REALLY old! I remember some of the larger ones came with clothes and brushes to "style" their hair. We kids were such suckers for the latest fad!!

Okay, now that I think about it, I guess you could consider my obsession for the latest techno gadget in a similar light. So, I'm still a sucker for the latest fad.

That meaning for troll above is actually defined for the term weenie. We've called people who have acted in the manor defined weenies long before the term troll was used on the net. The term troll can into net usage due to people trying to hit on others. Trolls used to start off with the A/S/L question.

Trolling for sex is how troll got it's net usage.

I agree. I see a strange mob mentality in this thread were people seems just to want to agree and belong to the group instead of thinking themselves.

Since trolling existed (nad most likely started to be used as a term) on Usenet (and did not start on IRC as you claim) I doubt this.

I've been online since the very first public BBS was put up in the next town over from me. So yes, I've seen the usage of these terms evolve and the meaning of troll as applied to the net did start with IRC. The term you want as applied to Usenet is a flamer.

Actually, that particular usage was borrowed from fishing, where it predates the bbs.

Did you think this yourself ?, or are you just following Ahi's thinking, and now wish to belong to his group?

Only joking, I just saw a bit of irony

Trolling, as I remember, did originate on a usenet group, but generally, was always used in the terms of something that a flamer did (at least in the groups I was at). I didn't see it used as a noun until after I started hanging out in chat rooms and IRC channels in the late '90s.

Hey, wait a minute!

Everybody is talking about trolls on BBS and usenets and chat rooms, but I happen to know for sure that they hang out under bridges. If you don't believe me, go ask Billy Goat Gruff!

Hmmm.. Bill the Smith = Billy Goat Gruff? Maybe?....

Hey! Come-on guys I have avoided posting here because am I really the only one who thinks this whole 'Bill the Smith' saga is very transparent!?

I know we want to make the forum - 'busy'- but why is this the way?
