Plastic Logic is E-Ink. It may bring down prices a little but there are still patent licensing charges. It will be interesting to see but I still don't think you will see $100 readers until the patent runs out.

I thought Plastic Logic designed and engineered it's own version of "epaper" and wasn't licensing or purchasing anything from eInk/PVI?

Not PVI but E-Ink still holds the patents on the technology that Plastic Logic uses.

You're right; this is stated on the Plastic Logic web site. I didn't know that .

I, for one, look forward to it!! Now, if the format will just get settled down.....
This is only true if the amount of people who buy ebook reader increases. An oversaturated market will actually damage the long time development of ereaders rather than promote it (deterring investors for a long time). We will find out in a year whether or not the ereader market will be able to keep up with expectations of current investors and if pick-up rates skyrocket like your microwaves or the more recent mp3-players once did.

Because if it does we'll get lower prices and fast advancing technology.

Dear eReaderPlanet:

What you are talking about is called a Mobile Internet Device (MID). That will do ebook reading, browser, email, VoIP, color pictures, video, music, etc. Astak is working on a 7 inch (code named Spectrum) very actively... but it is hush-hush at this point. This is all I can tell you until closer to release.

ALL Astak eBook Readers already have MP3 stereo built into them. Some other people do not care about music... but I like to do both at once: read and listen to my music. One of our products, the Mentor Lite also comes with Sudoku and I do see "games" as a path for eBook Readers to go also!

Yes, I was aware of that but I wanted to focus on the patent rights expense, not the manufacturing process expenses which is a whole different thing. I don't blame you for Netronix mistakes even though you own them
