Hmm, if he can plan this at around September, I should be able to get my husband crazy enough to go to Paris for a weekend, and celebrate our 16 years together there

Hike_gc, I have a 505 in red right now and it isn't distracting at all to read on. Once you get into your book you don't even notice it. The only distraction that comes from a brighter colored device is other people asking what you have.

PRS-600 looks nice, I expect to buy it few weeks after release. I just hope it won't cost ridiculous amounts of money with shipping and sellers profiteering from my misfortune of not getting it released where I live till next millennium.

I've actually connected my Reader (505) to a computer that was not sleeping and did not have the Library sw installed. It drained the battery.

Charging via the power port is *much* faster and more reliable! All it takes (if you want to charge from a computer) is a PSP data/power cable, for under $5.

I'm already pretty sure I'll be giving my 505 to my gf to replace her 500 (and access the local library to borrow ebooks). I honestly don't know which new model I want, though. Both are appealing for different reasons!

I really hope that the new devices can charge from a "dumb" USB power source, like all the other readers on the market can. This has always struck me as being a very strange restriction of the PRS-505 and 700.

Ok, you twisted my arm! I want to buy the red one! But I'm not ready to place my order quite yet. I want to wait for the press conference and see if they mention the rumored larger model. If Sony really is going to release a larger model and it comes out by Christmas, I might hold out a bit longer. The announcement by Sony today that they are going to drop their DRM by the end of the year makes me just want to order now!

As I understand they weren't dropping DRM as such, they're just moving from the BBeb (LRF) format to EPUB - and it wasn't even an official announcement, was it?

Has anyone owned an ereader device in a color not black or silver and what that bright color a distraction?
I was curious about that too. Since my 700 is almost identical in style to the 600, I bought a red skin so I could test drive whether or not a red reader would be distracting. Oddly enough, the color isn't distracting at all. The only thing distracting about it is that I can't stand having a vinyl skin covering my gorgeous reader! LOL...Once you start reading, you really don't notice what color the reader is at all.

I was going to pre-order a reader from SonyStyle, but I figure if I'm going to have it shipped, I may as well get it from another state so I won't have to pay taxes. If I'm going to buy it here in FL, I may as well go to the SonyStyle store, that's only 3 mis. from my house, on Aug. 31st. Plus, I want the light cover and thus far, the light covers aren't up for pre-order yet.

Yeah, they're definitely not dropping DRM--just switching it over to Adobe ADEPT along with the move to ePub.
