Greetings from Austria. (No kangaroos here :-)

As the title says, I'm from Austria (Not to confuse with Austrialia, where sometimes packages I order in the US are sent...). I have seen there is a german subforum here, so I guess I might not be the only one. (Though it's likely most are from germany?) [edit]Nice forum feature, btw - I see now there are at least 5 others from Austria. (Or at least whose thread title indicates and got selected for "similar threads") A few days ago I bought an eReader (Netronix/Elonex EB-600), and just this day I finally got it. Of course, I've got lots of questions (as I barely leave anything as-is and immediately start to speculated what else might be possible). I'll ask them in more fitting subforums, though. Were it not for a collegue of mine, who mentioned thinking about buying one himself, I still wouldn't even realize how much "eBook" there is already. Till a few weeks ago, I thought it'd be one or two models, incompatible to anything and barely useable - and beyond reach, as far as money is involved. An afternoon of research(read: leafing through google) showed me how wrong I was. At least about models and compatibility. The prices do hurt. After some more research, I determined that I'd want to own a Netronix device. They seemed to be good quality, and more importantly, widely in use, even if with different names stamped on it. Having a line of several successive models also implied to me that a) they'll continue to exist and b) are likely easier to reprogram than one-shot models. The EB-600 looked especially nice to me, so I started looking for models that use this hardware. By sheer luck, I found the Elonex eReader - affordable and based upon EB-600. Well, now I finally have it in my hands. And lots of questions... Last edited by Cyberman tM; 08-07-2009 at 10:04 AM. |

As I said, it was more of an accident that I found it. Also, I suppose that most are blinded by all the hype surrounding better(?) devices. I've noticed this forum doesn't have a subforum for it - not even a generic EB-600 forum. So I guess it's either too new or not popular.

Welcome to MobileRead, Cyberman tM! I've not heard of your reader. It might just have gotten overshadowed by the Kindle and the Sony. You will love all the information you find here at MR and our members are notoriously helpful. Don't be shy about jumping into the fray. We're glad you're here. Happy Reading! |

Welcome to MR I seem to recall there was a brief discussion about the Elonex device being around, but beyond that, I can't remember! |

Take a look here: http://fredlarts.at/~cyberman/eBook/Elonex_EB600.html I wrote it as HTML page because that's the easiest way for me. Forums are too inflexible and Word or similar won't work too well with me. :-/ I fear it may be a bit too heavy on the hardware side, but I wrote it with the intention of showing it to some collegues who might buy an eReader as well, so I tried to cover everything important, even if it's redundant with pages like this here or OpenInkpot. (Also, I'm more interested in replacing the firmware than using it :-) If anyone wants additional information, just say so. I'll try and write about it as soon as I find the time. [edit] BTW, I'm still adding new stuff to it, because I either just saw it, or realized it's rather important to know. Ah, before I forget - I tried the page in Firefox 3, as well as IE7. The table is a bit weird in IE7, but otherwise there should be no problems. In case anyone actually checks the HTML code - yes, the link-list has errors. I'll fix that eventually, but right now I'd rather go to sleep. Hm. Scary? Why, he's got such a friendly smile on his face. :-) I'm using this avatar on all forums, it's a comic figure I like. It's a not too common avatar either, perfect to balance my all-too-common forum name. Last edited by Cyberman tM; 08-13-2009 at 03:34 PM.

Pfffft. It's just not a proper country without kangaroos and cute fluffy vicious things and weird duck-beaver-mutants!! Welcome, Cyberman! I hope all your questions get answered. |

I think you didn't really look closely at the picture. Therefore, I downloaded and resized it a bit, so can better see it: My statement stands. There are no kangaroos in Austria :-D Note: I have to admit I have no idea if there really would be a sign like that. Or what it would look like. But why let facts get into the way of a good laugh, right?
