Hello,

I currently have a sony prs505 but i hate the machine because if i run more than 800 books it is very slow & every month or so it will lose all my collection. so i have to spend a lot more time managing my stuff.

I was looking at the pocket pro because 1st) the processor is a 400 compare to my 200 from sony 2nd) i read on some places that it takes SDHC card up to 16GB. Can someone confirm that info for me?

Also, i have 2000 books (arround 3GB) that i want to put in it & i am hoping to have all of them on the same reader. The 12 formats is a great +. My question would be to know if anyone has that many books in it & if the device still works great for reading when there is a lot of files in it?

It's true. 16 GB SD card support.

I have pre-ordered it and it will hopefully be on my doorstep at the end of the month.

I have almost 10g of books myself, although I confess than there are many duplicates. txt, lit, html, rtf, doc of the same files in many cases, since I was reading on my laptop. Once I get my unit, I'll convert them all to ePub or Lit and get rid of the dupes.

do any of you already have the pocket pro? if yes do you know if it is compatible with calibre software? & does it have a feature that gives you the description of the books (like metadata from calibre)?

Question Question about ordering...

Since the Pocket Pro is in pre-order status right now. Is the credit card charged at time of order or when the unit is shipped?

I can confirm that the specs of the Hanlin V5 (EZ Reader Pocket Pro) include a 400 MHz processor and support for SDHC cards up to 16GB. We won't know for sure about the 16GB cards until a few people have tried out several brands of cards. The E-book Reader Matrix has the best information we have on all devices, but it is obviously preliminary for unreleased, or newly released, devices.

I only have a 1 GB SD card on my EZ Reader, but the folder support means that the number of ebooks is either irrelevant or not as important as on a Sony reader. The folder structure is whatever you want, e.g. genre/author/title. I have an exact copy of the SD card on my PC (and another copy on a USB stick), so if it gets corrupted I can restore it.

Hmmm, I wonder how long it would take to read 16 GB of books?

You can get a little bit of information about the file using the info command but it is not very exhaustive and does not let you describe the books. At least that is the way the new firmware upgrade the EZ Reader basic works and I would expect the Pocket Pro to work exactly the same.

I don't think I will live long enough to find out. I guess you could fill it up fairly easy with music though.

I suspect they will read 16gb and more. My EZ-Reader reads an 8gb card, although they say the support is 2gb.

I think the high capacity card support is more geared for storing music files.

Music, as well as Audio Books, which can get quite large in size.

Slayda, I do not have an SD card yet, except for a 2GB that I bought for my digi camera to replace its 32 MB card.

I know for access and such, it would be best to get a faster card, but I have yet to check out prices. What brands of SD card would you say would be best in terms of quality and speed vs price?

Seriously, why do people feel the need to put absurd amounts of book files on a Reader (or other device) that they will never actually be able to read, and then complain when the system gacks? You can put over a year's worth of reading using just internal memory, and no problems at all. The complete "library" of ebooks that you will never read can stay safely on your hard drive, and even be backed up on flash media. But why insist on putting tons of stuff on the Reader that you'll never access? This "completist" mentality baffles me. I use my Reader to read books, not to "carry around my whole library."

And, if I want to listen to music, I'll use a more compact and better-sounding mp3 player, thankyouverymuch.

From several posts that I have read, the MP3 player on the Astak's devices rival, and in some case even surpass, the ipod and similar players.

As for the SD cards. I very well could get a 16GB card, but I could only, most likely, get it halfway filled before I run out of books. However, I plan on getting a couple 4GB cards instead.

Reason 1) Access. If the liseuse must access all of the files and folders before allowing you to search or move through the file structure, the less information it has to read, the fast you can find your book.

Reason 2) Less Folders. I can have 1 SD card for all my Fantasy/Fiction, so I do not have to have "Fantasy Fiction as a subfolder like I would if all my books were on one disk.

Then again, I may say "chuck it" and just get an 8gb card for all my books. I figure I could get a fast-access 8GB card for the same price as a cheap 16, so I'll save a bit of lolly.
