now apart from our color preference I have to decide whether to get a black 600 which will have brighter screen but will be hotter to handle here in Guam or to get a silver one that will have a darker screen but will stay cooler when reading at the beach...hmm...

more seriously, you could also think of getting a silver one and then trying to find a darker skin for it ; that would let you try out both options. there will be some available soon, probably. or, you could get a black one, and put silver duct tape on it.

skin sounds like a nice option. definitely better than silver duct tape

well I just placed Ea's picture next to the 600 silver pic on the net and in the picture it looks nicer than the one sony has posted. the one on the net by sony makes the silver look really washed out grey

You made me do it

Here's two more photos to show the colour. Halogen light is very yellow, so I went outside to get some natural day light. It's 7.30 here, but sunset is not until 9, and it's overcast, so the colour of the light should still be relatively neutral.

Edit: you mentioned your Macbook; when I hold the device close to my aluminium iMac, it's the same colour, only the Mac has a slightly coarser surface texture.

I am sure all this extra information will make it even easier to choose

(caveat: I can't say if the new 600 has the same surface treament as the 505)

Thanks for the pictures Ea. it's really given me a better idea of what silver looks like. and now i have my macbook as a reference as well!

And don't forget "do not touch the connector of a memory card with bear hands..."

Well gosh, if I had bear hands I think that memory cards would be the least of my problems. Lack of opposable thumbs comes to mind

it does make it really hard to hold the thing securely. and forget about doing *anything* with the stylus, not just poking !

i just noticed in the footnotes of the product page they say it works with both PC and Mac, but in the footnotes they mention "sold separately" ! here i was counting on asking them to throw in a mac (or maybe a vaio notebook...) to go with my 600. this changes everything. maybe i'll get an astak instead.

Good thing for Sony they made that footnote
