A few people in the thread talked about RTF and I didn't even realize the 505 did that format. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned but I believe the Sony reader does not support full justification with hyphenation in epubs. Is this a result of something on the side of Sony or Adobe? I also believe there is a problem with either epub size or page length on epubs too with the Sony reader? Again is this a Sony or Adobe thing?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

RTF is good if you don't plan on using images or a table of contents. I use it the most often because I read fan fiction and it only takes 3 minutes to prepare the file (mostly adding the correct metadata) and I have to increase the font size to 18-20 because for some reason at size 12 on RTF the font is super tiny.

But for the stories where I think I may want to use the Table of Contents I convert to LRF.

That's geek speak. I wrote this tool that does just what was suggested.

Here it is a link to the executable to improve ePub on Sony

It's been a known issue and is reported to the calibre team, but unfortunately it has low priority.

LRF is an old friend that I have created over a thousand times in the past few years. ePub is the future. Sure there are a couple of problems with Sony's current implementation of ePubThese will go away in the near future and we will forget that they were once problems. The font embedding without any performance degradation aspect of ePub on the Sony is worth far more than the justification ability to me.

I have used BookDesigner for many years and it has been an excellent tool for creating LRF files. (And the cleaner files created by Jon are a critical element in making great LRF files.) But BookDesigner is many years old and all of my emails and PMs to the creator are left unanswered. I fear that we have seen the final update to BookDesigner. On a good note we do have many new tools for ePub such as Sigil in addition to the always excellent Calibre. These tools are the future, BookDesigner belongs to yesterday.

It took me a long time to decide what is the best format for me. LRF books are working fine but there is no WYSIWYG editor for these. Now I'm editing all my books in MS Word and print them to pdf with the best font (size) for my eyes. Is not as fast as LRF but is ok and it looks great on my reader. I have uploaded a book to show it to you. Please try it and give me a feedback:

I did font hack and went with LRF because I thought it was sony native format and would have faster page turns, faster zoom formatting times, and save battery so I would have longer battery life.

Is epub just as good and is there any advantages of it over LRF? I'm still a newbie since I have only had the 505 a month or so, some of you guys know a lot more than me. Share your experience with the rest of us.

Thanks
I only read PDF's of my own creation converted from whatever other format is available for sale.

It is the best format for both aesthetics and (thereby) ease of reading, as I have no expectation to change the font size (having already set it to my preferred size).

I can see the benefit to that - but I'm not a one font fits all circumstances kind of guy. Sitting at my desk, I tend to use the small font - which is my normal preference. Lying in bed, it's easier to use the large or medium font because there's less light on the screen or I may have taken my glasses off.

My preference in fonts depends on the circumstances in which I'm reading.

I do think that if the next firmware for the 505/700 adds full justify to ePub, then we'll need to redo this poll.

RTF is great. My first choice since a lot of ebooks are available in DOC format and RTF is so small. Unfortunately the Sony Reader doesn't handle images in an RTF which is disappointing.

I picked epub since it is the future... now if only the PRS automatically cut out the margins of every epub file...

You can switch font size with LRF?

I keep pressing the magnifier and I get the same page display size from S to L every time. I got the LRFs by converting PDFs using PDFLRF.

I am thinking the same. I use Calibre to convert from prc or lit to lrf. You could try to convert into some other format first, such as html or rtf or prc, and then convert into lrf. For each time you change size, the reader will take a minute or two to re-paginate (only once, the first time you do it)

One way to check if its an image is to see if you can highlight the words on the Ebook library on a PC.

Also if you add the LRFs to the reader using the Ebook library it gets pre-paginated so you dont have to wait the minute or two to change font sizes
