Word gets out fast at MobileRead Forum. I was prohibited from saying much before the press release. SO, here are the facts:

1. In an effort to attract media attention and get reviewers to review our devices, Astak has dropped the price on the exciting and full-featured 5 inch Pocket PRO from $229 to $199!

2. ALL people who have already purchased the 5 inch Pocket PRO (pre-order) WILL BE REFUNDED the $30!! Notice of this refund will be sent out today! If your card was charged $229 (plus shipping) you will recieve the $30 refund!

3. PLEASE do not call!! There is no need; and it only slows things down. IF you do not receive the notice of refund within 5 days from our accounting department... then send an email to support@astak.com!

4. This Special Price will last only until September 30 at 12 midnight PDT.

5. We are doing this to get the attention of the press to a landmark new device that is so crammed with features that there is no other 5 inch truly competing with it!

6. PLEASE, spread the word!! It is inappropriate for me to barge in on other threads... yet people need to know. Please tell your friends and your fellow members!!

Yes, the Adobe Digital Editions gives DRM of pdf eBooks. DRM EPUB is coming from Adobe but is not here yet!

So wait a minute, you're saying it doesn't support Adept encrypted EPUB like others such as Sony and Bookeen, just Adept encrypted PDF? Am I reading that right? The DRM is basically the same, didn't even know you could do one without the other using the ADE SDK. Also the Hanlin v5 supports DRM for both, isn't the Pocket Pro a US distributed version of the v5? I'm hoping you misspoke.

I know the Pocket Pro is up to the laest and greatest hardware. But the EZ Reader needs a serious update. It's going to be left far behind as far as the hardware goes.

I'd love to see that. Robertb also mentioned that he'd love to see it, and that he's tried. Let's hope the pre-order numbers are high enough to convince Jinke to update the 6" insides.

Yep, me too, "check's in the mail (along with the Pocket Pro)". Unfortunately, it's being shipped by CCH (Cross Country Hiker), so it will be another 3 weeks at least before it arrives... :-)

I'm with you with a great big "huh?"

No secure ePub support at shipping? HUH?

If I had bought one and found I couldn't read all my ePubs, which I would certainly have expected to, I'd be madder than heck.

I do hope you misspoke or you might find yourself with a lot of unhappy customers.

He said "DRM ePUb is coming from Adobe but is not there yet."

The list of supported formats on the website only says Adobe ADE - which I think most people would assume includes both PDF and ePub.

Yikes! Talk about a buzz-kill - the Sony PRS-300 just began to look a lot better (the PocketPro had begun to edge it out in my mind with the price drop to $199, but now it's not looking so good).

I learned my lesson waaaaaaaay back with the Franklin eBookman not to trust any vendor who says a certain format is coming. If I'm in the market, I'll buy whatever already has what I want and not trust to an update later.

Man, I'm glad I already have a PRS-505. It's just looking better and better all the time.

Remember the 505.. Sony did say they were coming with ePub and they did deliver. Just remember, this is not Bookeen we are dealing with.
