Sony PRS300/PRS600 available for pre-order - Page 6

I read somewhere that the new Sony devices were meant to be released in various countries (mainly North America and Europe) but can't find the info. For all of us non-US residents out there (that's a helluva lot of us!) I'm interested to see if this will be easily available for us to order internationally. Obviously not from SonyStyle, and it seems J&R only ship to US and Canada. Not to yank-bash or anything, but if this turns out to be another Sony special release item for "US-only privilege club members" I will truly spit the dummy.

If anyone does spot it on another site renowned for international shipping, please post it on mobileread.com so we can all get on board. Cheers.

The service manuasl do mention European models. But I think we'll have to wait a few weeks for a European announcement.

Bol.com and Sony event takes place on August 26th. It's likely they will announce release dates for the new models (September?) at least for Netherlands, but possibly for other countries as well.

The service manuals for both new models include the following:

Canadian Model
UK Model
French Model
German Model
Netherlands Model

The PRS-600 firmware many provide a different dictionary in some models. The UK version probably won't include the Oxford American dictionary, for example.

Currently in the UK we have the 505 on sale and although the prices are dropping, £150+free trifold cover, I don't want to be left holding an out of date model especially if new ones are around the corner.

I am in the US the 1st 2 weeks of September and I'll see if I can get to a Sony Shop and have a look at these new models but I will be very surprised if we see any of these versions in the UK before 2010.

So if Amazon brings the Kindle to UK with full functionality Sony will need to respond fast.

The trouble is that in the UK Sony has it nicely sewn up and eBooks from Waterstones are insanely priced, they are more expensive than paper books for new releases and so we could do with a bit of competiton to shake it all up.

If the price for the 505 drops to £120 - £130 then I will get one for now and wait and see what happens next.

The service manuals clearly mentioned "UK Model" for PRS-300 and PRS-600, so you can be certain they will be released there.

I'm quite happy with my 505 for the moment, but it would nice to see Sony finally officially introduce their ebook readers here.
