That what we says by "Fair Use"

You own the right to read/use the book, and until you didn't distribute it, you could do what you want. This is only a stream of byte, you have the right to do anything with from this point of view, even better, if you are a mathematician, you could see this stream of byte as a number, and you can add, sub, multiply or divide any other number with this number...

Man, I wish they'd ship the damn things to retailers already. Bookeen has been shipping units to individual customers since last week...

I've checked and spoken to half a dozen retailers here in the Netherlands, and still nothing. Bookeen is apparently flakier then French pastry!

I don't want to order from Bookeen directly. As nice as their product is, they are wholly unreliable when it comes to communication. My mails went unanswered, and even retailers bitched about broken promises.

I want to order it from my favorite, online retailer. But I can't if they *don't have stock to sell*

Grrrr. It's annoying to no end. Sorry if I seem like a broken record, but it helps to vent :-)

Whats the different if you buy it from bookeen or from a reseller ? You will always have to speak with bookeen at one time.

And if you contact directly bookeen instead of a reseller, you will always have the best answer time and reparation time. As far as I know, only bookeen can repair the Cybooks.

I really like my particular reseller. I trust their stock indication, and their customer communication is excellent.

Bookeen OTOH is rather unreliable on that front. Sure, they have stock... Probably... But i don't want any hassle. They never answered a mail I sent, which is a big red flag to me. And with international shipping, much can go wrong.

So I'd rather deal with people I know are reliable. Unfortunately, they seem to be having issues with Bookeen too -- precisely the thing I want to avoid.

I like the product, but hate the company. Simple as that.

In Bookeen's defense, I ordered the Opus on a sunday night, and it was on my doorstep tuesday morning at 10:30am. Coming from France that is superb. I had a similar fast turnaround when i ordered the Gen3 (which was a while ago). I know nothing about their customer service (email response, warranty issues, etc), but I couldn't ask for anything better in terms of a simple fast order process and quick delivery. Of course, I've only dealt with them twice, I know nothing of there track record in general...

That is not true in Sweden at least. Consumer protection laws says that the retailer have to handle all problems and they cannot tell you to contact Bookeen directly if this leads to much extra work for you and extra cost.

Similar is true in Germany. I bought my device from justread.de, and this store is the one I will (have to) address to if any problems come up which are covered by the warranty.

And even after the warranty expires I still will ask my retailer first and Bookeen only afterwards (if necessary at all).

But my retailer may send me a new device much faster. Also, communication via phone is much quicker and cheaper (at least if you don't end up at a service hotline ...)

Actually I think there may be something similar in France: I bought my cybook at Virgin, and they told me that I was supposed to contact them and not bookeen if I wanted to use the warranty.
I haven't have yet any problems with my cybook, so I hope I won't have to contact anybody to check if this is true or not!

Depends on the cases i guess. When you're in france, it's easier to talk to bookeen yourself.

Do they answer e-mails written in French more often than in English?

I am not a Bookeen fan. I'd recommend you buy from somewhere else, BUT ...

both my experience and that of others here would suggest that you won't have any problems ordering a unit from them. All of the reports are of fast, easy and reliable order handling and shipping on new units. I've yet to see a single complaint in that regard. It's only when it gets to after sale support that the complaints start. So, if you are really sold on purchasing from Bookeen I wouldn't be afraid to order direct from them.

NO. We have several testimonies of efficient and nice after-sales services: screen change etc. sometimes beyond the call of service.
There seem to be a few gripes about a certain update, though...

OK, and I recognize that the bias will be more towards the complainers (like me ) than the good reports. So things will always look worse on a message board than they really are.

But, in reality customer service averages should be 99% positive and less than 1% complaints. One bad experience does not equal an overall disaster, and one good experience does not equal good overall customer service. It sure feels to me like the weight of good to bad is certainly below the 90% range.
