What I want to know is how to move ADE from one computer to another so I don't have to register again.

I might be missing the meaning of your question, JSWolf, but could you just download ADE on the new computer and authorize the new computer on your old account? Or is that what you are trying to avoid having to do?

Just in case ...

Anyone managed to find a solution to this issue?

I've been OK choosing either PDF or ePUB for the most part but now am off on a 2 week trip with no Adobe Digital Editions access. Grabbed plenty of OverDrive reading material but 1/2 are ePUB and 1/2 are PDF. Which to choose?!

Ugh, that's a terrible situation! I have not found a solution, but it just occurred to me . . . what would happen if you had two memory cards, and you put all the PDFs on one and all the epubs on another, and then you swapped them out for each other? I've never used memory cards at all, so I have no idea if that would work.

I think you're probably onto something. I had thought about it but not gotten up the gumption to pull my sole card out of my camera. I'll give it a shot tonight and let you know!

Next up: convince OverDrive to redo their PDF formatting; yuck!

My solution has been to strip the DRM from the books. I'd never bothered before, but this problem was ridiculous.

Well, this ended up being the answer. I have gone almost 9 months with nothing on my Reader that wasn't public domain or legitimately downloaded from the local library but now there are a series of DRM-stripped library books on there.

And, after some thought, my conscience is clean. I'm not gonna distribute them. I'm gonna read the books on my Reader, just like the library—I think—would've intended. Tonight, however, I think I'll curl up with this little gem: http://tr.im/vwol

I know how you feel. I didn't think it was "right" to strip DRM, but in this case the DRM interfered with my ability to legally use the book.

I'll delete the books after they're read and I won't distribute them, but it still annoys me that I've been forced to this point by Overdrive's bug.

Hate to bring back such an old thread, but found this in my google search. I just got my reader yesterday and am having this problem. Installed all new ADE and Sony eBook Library. Problem still happens. My husband borrowed a PDF book, I borrowed a ePUB book. Only one can be read while the other is protected. This goes both ways, depending on how it was put on there (I re-checked out, put them back on a bunch of times).

My husband wanted a Kindle and I wanted the Sony - this is going to make him want to return it for the Kindle!

Has there been any solution to this problem?

I wasn't aware of this issue. No one on this thread reported back about using separate memory sticks for PDFs and EPubs...maybe even use the internal memory for one type and the memory stick for another. I'm not quite sure if that would work. The other alternative ofcourse is to strip the DRM....more work, but worth the hassle.

As for the Kindle, I'm not very sure how that would help as it doesn't even support Epubs so you can't borrow any Epubs from libraries or purchase them from other stores. The only DRM content it handles is Amazon ebooks. So it's equivalent to forcing yourself to Epub or PDF only (although Amazon does ofcourse have a large ebook collection) Good luck! If you choose to pursue stripping DRM, I'm sure some of the folks here can point you in the right direction (sorry, I have no experience with stripping DRM).

Tried separate memory

FYI.

I just tried putting one filetype on an SD card and one in internal memory, and also used separate SD cards for both filetypes. Both methods didn't work for me.

I am also having this problem. This is the first time I've tried to read library books on my Sony and the 2 PDF's are fine, the 2 Epubs are not. All 4 borrowed from the Maryland Digital Consortium on my library card. I also loaded these to my EZ Reader Pocket Pro and they are all working fine on that device so it must be a problem specific to the Sony.

I just got off a chat with Sony support. It is a known issue and here is their response:

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/d...nalId=C1008686

A Protected Page! error occurs on the Reader when opening a borrowed book that is in the ePub or PDF format.

Solution

This may happen when borrowed Adobe DRM-protected ePub and PDF eBooks exist on the Reader at the same time. Follow this procedure to correct this issue:

Delete all borrowed books from the Reader.

Verify that all borrowed books are in the same format (either ePub or PDF) before transferring them back to the Reader.

I did request a firmware update to correct the problem but won't hold my breath. I do not know how to free the epubs from their DRM. Can someone please PM me with help?

Thanks.

Surprised that this EPUB v. PDF bug hasn't been resolved yet?!?

Running into this "protected page" issue, I found this thread - in my case I've a Sony PRS-300, and using SFPL.org to check out books from my local library ... some in PDF, some in EPUB, all presumably with DRM protection.

If the last book I transfer to the reader is EPUB, then I can read EPUB formats, but not the PDFs; if I recheckout a PDF, then all the PDF's become accessible, while EPUBs are now not.

I'm fkn stunned that Sony's official response is to "delete all and only use one format" ... seriously?

Seems it's been over 1/2 year since this thread was started, but judging from the google results on "protected page," this issue has been going on for much longer - anyone have any updates on this?

I'm loathe to resort to stripping DRM from these books, but if Sony doesn't resolve this bug, what choice do people have?!?
