Anyone have experience with using offline webpages and the Newton. I am getting a MP110 here in a couple days which I bought off of Ebay. I've never used one before so I really have no idea if this is even possilbe with it.

Ahh the good old messagepad That thing must be like 10 years old now, right? I only remember NetHopper. And I think in conjunction with NetHopper, there was a tool called WebXpress that lets you download pages unattended to read offline.

See here: http://www.unna.org/unna/internet/web-browsers/

Cheers!

There's no doubt that in many ways the Newton begat the Pilot. I remember thinking that when the Pilot came out, I thought why copy a failed PDA. My opinion has changed on both points.

I kind of wish Apple would make another attempt at PDAs.

Cool to see some people are still using this.

Lightbulb Apple PDA??

Hey,

Apple does have a PDA it's the ipod. The only thing about it is you can't enter information into it but I think that this will come soon enough. I predict that the next ipod will have an input or even a way to use the jog wheel to enter information via an onscreen keyboard. I just think that it may happen.

I own an iPod and love it, but it is no pda. It has rudimentary scheduling functions (like those on some cellphones) while its screen is both small and monochrome. If Apple is to do a pda (and it keeps insisting it will not), it will have to adopt a very different form factor. radleyp

There have been many rumors weather apple will produce a new PDA or not. Fact is, that when Scully left Apple and Jobs came back in, no attemt in this direction had been made. Steve Jobs is known for hating the whole Newton series, but lately, with the i-Software, truning computers into "digital hubs", it would be the next logical step, to bring out a PDA, so that you can take your data with you.
I believe, that there will only be a new PDA form Apple, if the engeniers in Cuppertino figure out a new way to input data. Todays solutions are more a compromise than really usable. Whenever Apple kicking out a new line of productions, they have to be revolutionary in terms of usability and design.
Let' s see...

Btw. I unplugged my MP120 about three month ago. RIP

I totally agree (hi Falk btw )! If the next Apple PDA has the quality of the Ipod, it better be great! What would be absolutely fantastic of course if Apple decided to use a mini version of its OS X system for its PDA. A PDA based on FreeBSD.....

Well, I wonder if some old PC geeks will learn a lesson and get back to real computers, when that happens. (Will ya, Alex? )

Still more the TCSH/bash user... guess even if you would buy an apple pda running os x, the only task running would be the old ascii terminals. Some habits will never change, right? In the end it turns out, that you get more from the system the way you use it than I do.
