I suggest waiting until sometime in August and see what happens. Then place the order based on what's available. I'm sure one of the devices will suit your needs.

I agree, the end of august should introduce the latest batch of this year. The rest is planned at the end of the year, or the start of the next.

I'm curious about the TTS. How usable is it with DRMed content? Do most DRMed ebooks allow TTS?
Looking forward to the early reviews and some videos. I still want to see the instantaneous (near instantaneous) page turns. |

In my experience, most DRMed ebooks have all additional "permissions" disabled (although some PDFs allow limited copying and printing). It appears that Adobe ePub does have a read aloud metadata field, see for example Prince of Fire by Daniel Silva at Books on Board. This indicates that Read Aloud isn't available for Adobe PDFs, although Adobe Reader (not Adobe Digital Editions) does have a read aloud option for DRM-free PDFs. So far as I know, no version of ADE has read aloud capability Last edited by wallcraft; 07-31-2009 at 10:26 AM. |

Yes. Like the Hanlin V3, the V5 supports folders. See File Navigation: Hanlin V3 vs OpenInkPot.

Kinda strange that with all new devices coming out especially in 5" format the price went up and not down. Definetelly will wait till the end of August to see what's available at what price, it's not like I will miss any days reading books on the Pro (pre-orders baffle my mind in electronics). |

Once it hits retailers like Frys and NewEgg we may see it a little bit cheaper. The Opus is $280 so this is quite a bit cheaper than that. Wonder what the Sony 5" will retail for.

It will only be sold through Astak website. Fry's, nor any other outlet, will have access to the PocketPro.

It's a fair criticism, but obviously the price is not sufficiently an issue for some of us to not purchase the device. I still think it's a fair price. I agree that $199 would encourage more people to purchase it, and suspect the price might come down after a few months.
Early adopters tend to pay more and take the chance that "something better" will come along shortly afterwards. It's my experience, as a gadget geek of some years, that a better gadget ALWAYS comes along, so why not carpe diem and have some fun in the meantime instead of worrying about what the next month will bring? I assure you I am not rich nor can I afford to throw away money on anything useless, but I don't drive myself crazy over whether "something better" will come along and I rarely have strong regrets over any of my gadget purchases. I buy something I know I will be happy with, and then I am happy with it. Also I don't buy something just because it is the latest and greatest--I make sure I will be happy with it first. Usually I tell myself, "If I don't like it, I can sell it and take a slight loss," and then I'm reconciled. I've yet to sell a device because "something better" came along.
