In this case, do not blame Bookeen. The fault lies with Amazon/Mobipocket. MP has a policy that they have to be the only DRMed format on the reader. And so Bookeen has decided to go ePub to be competitive. In order to still offer DRMed Mobipocket, they have to have a seperate firmware to support this.

Sony wanted to offer MP but because of the MP policy, they could not. And having Sony on board with MP would have been a big boost for the MP format.

What I have an aversion to is paying $280 for a 5" screen. That's expensive.

Ah, the magic the euros to dollar conversion.
The sony ussed to be more expensive than bookeen. Now, prices for prs-500 went down. (the fnac want to get rid of stock before the new reader show up ?)

The Astak EzReader is $299
The BeBook is €289 (which is about $400)
The Opus is €249 (which is about $350).

So, for us, it's not that expensive...

It's On It's Way!!

Just got an email from Bookeen to say my Cybook Opus has been shipped. Checking on the FedEx site it says it will be delivered tomorrow (Friday 31st July).

I'm getting excited, then I tell myself 'It's only an eReader'!

Mine is on its way as well. Will be arriving on friday. I as well am excited, for me it is "just a reader", but my life revolves around reading and doing research, so this actually means quite a lot. It is not just an ereader, it is a tool that will help me solve a few storage problems, save money, save environment... and save my eyes from strain... So actually it is actually quite a lot.

Hi everyone.
Derek, do you mean that the update 1.2 that is now available is the new software? the one in the opus?
I'm confused, isn't it the same name than the previous update?

No... I meant that I was *hoping* that they had updated the firmware - but they haven't.

Derek

P.S. (Because as sure as God made little green apples, *someone* will otherwise point out they "have". ) By "haven't" I mean they haven't actually *POSTED* the latest firmware update.

I am holding the charged Opus right now. Very nice piece of machinery. I think its more agile than the Gen3. The ability to rotate the device really makes the reading of the pdf-files simpler. It is aesthetically pleasing as well. Only complaint is that it does not support that many filetypes.

I am not sure which reader I like the best. Time will tell. The folder support really makes a difference so I am hoping that this will be available for Gen3 as soon as possible!

Thank-you for your answer Derek. I'm disapointed but not confused anymore :-), (i don't know if it's better...)
I really do wish they post an update with folder management soon, if it's working for the opus, it's soooooo more frustrating now not to have it since it exist...

The posts of those who have the opus do make me want one though, it seems very nice but I would want the update for the Gen3 first.

Grrrrrr!

It's 2.30 pm here in the UK. Mr Fed-Ex delivery person still hasn't turned up. The online tracking site says my Opus is out for delivery . . . wish I had more patience!

Mind you, I've been in this situation before at the end of the day and when I've telephoned the couriers to find out why my package had not been delivered, I got told that the driver 'ran out of time' so I wouldn't have it that day. If that happens today I'm going to have to wait until Monday. Grrrrr indeed!
