A memory of the words of grandparents, if we, as grandchildren visiting, stood between them and, let's say, the telly they were watching:

I remember when video game drm used to be writing a word from the games manual. when games used to use the time and date to do funny things. when leisure suit larry used to ask questions only an "adult" would know games used to be about game play over how it looked. |

I remember when my dad was as strong as an ox and could carry three of us kids on his back and arms at one. I remember when he could buid a deck in a day. I remember when we were all huddled in the basement because of the weather and he would be going out the front door to go and fix the electric lines somewhere in his district. I remember when he would sit in front of the TV swearing at the Chicago Cubs. I remember him bringing in the Christmas tree that was two feet too tall and havnig to cut parts of it off right there in the living room.

What I don't want to remember is how he looks right now with all the tubes and wires and the little machines that go "ping." Sorry to bummer out your thread...

...which is just my way of saying...well, nothing, but with the strong impulse to nod empathetically and allay the blackness of solitude with a few stiff drinks down the pub together (along with anyone else who wants to come with us). I remember when me and Dad would take turns getting the icecream for dessert, and the Weet-Bix for breakfast. Mum would so very much get the irrits having to continually buy icecream by the bucketload and cereal by the pallet, because Dad and I had no reasonable sense of scale when it came to icecream or cereal. ![]() Cheers (seriously...Cheers! ),Marc |

[QUOTE=zelda_pinwheel...and remember how long you had to wait to see the photos ? because you had to take them to the laboratory to be developped, and come back to pick them up, and only then could you know if they came out as well as you hoped. for some special photos it was just agony to wait so long ! and then there appeared the "one hour" labs, and it was amazing so see them so fast !

and remember sometimes you would take the last 2 or 3 photos on the film of nothing at all, just to finish it, because you were in a hurry to see the pictures ? and then get the film back and have 3 lovely closeups of your feet, or the corner of a table... [/QUOTE]Yes, I do too! I remember before the 1 hour labs, they had these little Foto Huts where you drive by and drop off film and drive back to pick up the pictures later. I wonder if this was the beginning of drive-thru's? |

I remember being taught to use a slide rule at school, I was useless with it. I remember stamps and letters. In fact I remember posting a letter to my mother from Ethiopia and getting to her home in Johannesburg before the letter, and I did the trip from Ethiopia to South Africa on a bicycle!!!! Some stuff you just don't miss.
